Here is a Gotfredson item I have. It is a aluminum casting with a raised rib on the back side and no holes or ways to fasten it. It is 10 1/2" long and 2 7/8" wide. Where does it belong on the truck?

On your Gotfredson (sometimes listed as Godfredson) it appears their 1924 line included (at least) :
Model 20 1Ton
Model 31 11/2T
Model 50 21/1T
Model 80 31/2T, and
Model 100 5T
Other model numbers shown with the above are like "20B, 30C, B24, W64A, RW104A", but I don't have anything that definitely lists each years models.
I have no idea where to look for a tag or stamp; all seemed to've used an assortment of Buda engines, and Mroz's book says used typical "assembled truck" parts.
There was a Walter 4x4 military model that used a Herc DHXB engine; the only reason I noticed was that I got a DHXB/C parts book with something else I bought, and was looking to see what used it. BUT my stuff is weak on military models, so there may've been others.

Wellll, lessee here...Tonnage is a little difficult to pin down.
McCord Gaskets shows 4cyl Models 80,W64A and W84A on one line, 31/2-4T, with Buda YBU or YBUI...
They also show 6cyl Models 86, W86A and 106 on another line, 4-5T, with Buda GL6... (McCord seldom shows years)...
Jadson Valves shows a Model 80, 1923-25, 4T, with 4cyl Buda YTU...
Houpert pistons only goes to 23, but does show the 80 as 4T with the Buda YTU for 1922-23.
Other catalogs of the period don't show tonnage, and it's not unusual for these old parts catalogs to disagree, to say nothing of someone dropping/shoehorning in another engine!!

Mr. Tierney:
I bought two Buda engines a coupple months ago that had the Gotfredson tags on them, the little one is Model WTU
B/M- 3887
Ser # - 151044a
and the big one is model - EBUT
B/M - 2663R
Ser # - 193637A
I have the transmissions with them as well but they didnt have any mags or carbs on them, what kind do they take?
Thanks
Corey

Sorry, Corey, can't answer your question--my stuff is a few internal parts catalogs and a few fan belt catalogs; I've got nothing on carbs or mags.
The bigger engine is probably EBUI; Buda had several with the "I" variant (EBU,EBUI,KBU,KBUI,YBU,YBUI etc) and I don't see any with a "T" at the end. Nor do I know what the "I" designates, and my stuff either doesn't mention the variant or lumps them in with other models.
If you're close to a city with a decent public library, check with their reference section; they often have copies of old specs books (they never let anything that valuable out; you have to go look at it) with that kind of info, BUT they probably came with a range of carbs and mags, depending on the installation or the proposed use of the vehicle.
You might consider reposting as a separate question, and if nothing turns up trying ATCA, ATHS and Classic Trucks forum on yesterdayspickups.com. With sympathy, Bud

Forgot half of what I meant to say:
The KBU and KBUI, while with three others in the McCord, just show one b/s, and one set of gaskets (head, ex port, pan, bell hsg, valve cover and cylinder base for all five models), so the "I" must not be a b/s variant..
The EBU/EBUI are lumped with two others, and two b/s's shown, with no way to tell which was which...BUT all four take the same gaskets, EXCEPT for an oil pan and bell housing change in 1926, the oil pan and bell housing gaskets being for "prior to 26" and another set for "26-28".
The WTU is lumped with one other (MU) and shows two b/s's, with the WTU probably 33/4x51/8, but there's no "WTUI" variant shown, and no 25/26 gasket change.
