Question I've got ANOTHER computer problem. C.D. drive

I have a Toshiba Satilite laptop with Windows 98. One day when I put a cd in it would not work. It brings up an error. "Can not axcess dirve D:. The device is not ready." I tried a different cd drive but I got the same thing. Any ideas?????????? b.t.w. does any body have an extra battery for one?

Poor Cody.......

Have your tried the uninstall/reinstall thing yet?

Laptop......bugger to work on.......

If reinstalling doesn't cure the problem the next move is to unplug and re-plug the IDE ribbon cables between the drive and motherboard.......CAREFULLY.

Has this been on ongoing thing or something that just happened?
COULD be as simple as a bad boot.

Have you tried a different CD?

Craig........oh.......good luck bud.......

Is the CD spinning up when you close the drive?

My dad just replaced his old Toshiba Satelite with a new Dell. We still have the old machine, but the battery probably isn't worth much anymore. The CD drive is removable though, and we have an external drive attachment that it can be installed into or used with a floppy drive.

What model is your Toshiba. If you can use any of these parts to keep your machine alive, you're welcome to them.

Cody, if you want to play some of the newer games your onboard video or video card is undoubtedly outdated and UN upgradable.
The newer games require HUGE resources and new versions of DirectX which your old video won't support.

That said, it's due MAINLY to gamers we HAVE the super computers we have at a decent prices......the gamers paid up for that for the rest of us.......

Brad, it is model 101A I think. Craig, the games were designed for microsnot 95 & 98, so they aren't too graffic intense.
