Default Need Help Identifying Engine

My BIL has a 10KW Generac, Model SG010/15341, SN 0729164, which will have been doing good service for 20 years this fall. We are planning to do some serious preventive maintenance on it and it would be materially easier if we knew the make and model of the engine. It is tagged with Generac PN 51782, and is described as Engine - 1.3 Liter Gas. It is a 4 cylinder, overhead cam, crossflow, liquid coolled design. Over the years I have been told it was made by Mitsubishi, Mazda and Toyota! So will some of the experts please identify it for us.
Thanks,
Jack Hottel

Can't do much more than confuse the engine question--a 2000 Wix catalog lists Generac , doesn't show your model, but does have a section, under Generac, labeled "Engines", listing GN190, GN220, GN3320, GN360, GN480 and GN570...it goes on to list various gen's, pressure washers and welders with the various GN engines...
A 2006 Fram HD catalog lists a couple gen's with Mazda 2.2 and 3.0 engines, and a JD6081A engine...
Have you tried Generac?? generac.com and generacpowersystems.com was noted in the Fram book by someone..
Good luck.

Bud,
Thanks for the info, I'll see where it leads. Generac was the source of the manufacturers I mentioned. Like dealing with a committee. I bet some of the guys on the Stak have worked on these, and know the answer off the top of their heads.

Generac..............

Through the years have found them to be difficult to deal with.

That engine might also be a Nissan.

10 years old isn't bad.

An older Generac dealer might be able to help you, most Generac dealers are brand new and only deal with home standby stuff like the air cooled ones from Lowes.

Try this (919)861-6919 National Power in Raleigh. Service manager is John Dixon and if anyone knows, he would.

Got a friend with one of about the same vintage, got a Nissan industrial engine. Timing belt self destructed, bent 4 valves, Generac wants $96 each, per valve. My buddy is having a hard time as it is an industrial engine and NAPA can't seem to do much to help him, says he'll junk it before he pays that much for a valve on a cheap engine.

Gunny,

A good automotive machine shop should be able to build some valves from valve blanks that is available from automotive machine shop suppliers.

Thank you all for your responses.

Gunny,
Mr. Dixon informed me that Generac used Nissan engines of the 1.0 and 1.2 liter size, Mazda of the 1.3 liter size and Mitsubishi for the 1.5 liter. So what my BIL has seems to be a Mazda TC 1300, used in several vehicles over the years. We should be on our way.
Thanks again,
Jack Hottel

Glad that worked out for you. When dealing with Generac stuff, keep Mr Dixon's phone number close to hand. Know him personally and he's a good guy.
