I have a Generac G1000 portable generator which was designed for camping and running a very light load as it is only 750 watts. It looks like a small suitcase.
The actual model number on the manufacturer's plate is 8834-0. The Generac web site does not list an owners manual and even though I got a call back from Generac, the rep.got rather testy on the phone because I was asking for assistance on a model that was no longer on their web site. I'm looking for an owners manual and wiring diagram. The engine runs, but no electrical output. I tried to "flash the field" but I don't think that was the problem anyway. The unit ran years ago for my brother who was using it to run a sump pump during a major storm where the power went out. The generator stopped putting out electrical power even though the engine was still running and then his basement flooded. The generator has been on the shelf in my garage for years and last week I took it down, cleaned up the carb and it fired right up, but still no electrical output. I'm new to generator issues, so any help has to be step by step to tell me what to check and how to check the specific items. Anybody with a source for an owners manual would be greatly appreciated. |

If you flashed the "Field", and still no power, then the next thing to do is look at both,
the Field Rectifiers, and the Stator, and Field Windings, for Opens and Shorts.

A set that small might be capacitor excited. If so, the capacitor would be suspect also.

My son was given a generac generator, I fixed the motor, then he took it to an electrical motor rewind shop where they had a gentleman who worked on generators and electric golf carts. The voltage regulator was bad, It was about 60.00 and it fixed it. The votage regulator was a Briggs part, I think it was 84132VR. I would suspect that. but the proper person could check it out and see. If you want, mail me back and I'll look and verify that part no.

Some of the small generators in that range had an MOV on the rotor sometimes. (often pressed into a plastic slot and imbedded with varnish). If it is shorted, you'll have no output either. If you have one, and you are suspect of it, extract it carefully. You may be able to read the voltage rating on it, and get one through Radio Shack or others.

Does this look like yours at all, or too new?
Here's a link to a Generac site that has manuals for the download. http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache...lnk&cd=1&gl=us eric |

Lt. Gerry-
If the G1000M data that Eric found isn't applicable, there is an older G1000 included in Clymer's "Small AC Generator Service Manual", 3rd Edition (Vol. 1). They claim it has a Kawasaki FA76 engine. They do not show the entire unit, but there is an abbreviated breakdown shown of the generator portion. The circuit is quite simple with no voltage regulator. It is a brushless design, with an 18 microfarad 220 volt capacitor. They show a single field winding with a single 6A 600 volt diode on the rotor. It seems to me the most likely problem is a bad diode. Similar circuits use an MOV across the diode to prevent voltage spikes from zapping it, but this one has none. Fred |

Thanks to all for the replies.
Fred M.--You hit it right on the money as this is a Kawasaki engine on the unit. The G1000M referred to by others is I suppose Generac's newer version and Generac even told me to contact B&S for info. Hard to believe this company doesn't keep an archives of their products to help out in situations like these. I'll be grabbing the Clymer's book for sure to check it out. Now if I can just find the time as the grass is growing here in MD. Thanks to all and I'll post back with the results. First time on this forum and very impressed!!! |

I have an original Generac G1000 with the Kawaski motor and I have a owner's manual that I would copy if you did not get one yet

I have a G1000 at first with no AC output and it was a bad capacitor. I would love to have a copy of the manual.

Hello, I also have a Generac G1000 model: 8834-1 it was working fine, but it just stopped working. I check the oil level and I have a full tank of gas. I am not sure what I am over looking, please let me know were I would be able to get a manual for it. Thanks

I know this is a rather old post, but I wanted to let you know that I have the original manual. I scanned it, put it .pdf format, and uploaded it to a manuals website. It can be found at :
http://portablemedia.manualsonline.c...9e9781c2ce.pdf - you may have to register to download it. Hope this helps, Bob |
