svchost?

Shortly after going on line, I get a warning panel -

"svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program."

You can carry on and view web sites as usual but clicking on links or attachments has no results. Say on Smokstak, clicking on thumbnail pic to get larger image, nothing happens and posting pix is not possible. Also, when shutting down, you cannot disconnect short of pulling plug on phone line and then you cannt reconnect without restarting computer (I have Windows 2000 Professional).
Any thoughts? How do you restart svchost or should you even try?

svchost.exe is a system process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System which handles processes executed from DLLs. Seems to be an update problem from microsoft on this issue..Not sure where your update button is, but on my computer it is here.... Goto your start button and click "All programs", then click "Windows Update" and update your computer, see if this works.

Nope, even that goes stale once the error panel appears!
