Onan sells touchup paint in rattle cans. They are excessively proud of it but if you need just a little, that's the way to go. If you need more, as in enough to paint the whole machine, take a chip to NAPA and they'll mix a batch for you.

If you have a NAPA paint store they have the color in their database and can use different base formulas.

Just had my copy of the ES Parts Catalog out (928-0222 (Spec A-G)), and found this:

(Non-Metallic)

525-0305 12 oz Pressurized Spray Can ($19 (!) @ M-n-D)
525-0306 Quart Can
525-0304 Gallon Can

If you are talking the current light blue-green NAPA sells it. Their paint code is 53A13235. It is real close to being a match.

Anyone happen to know the paint code (or an equivalent color match) for the cream color used on the older marine gensets?

Airbatica - I always thought the marine sets were just white. Apparently my MCCK isn't as dirty / oily as I thought then.

What year is your genset? Mine looks kind of cream colored at this point as well. Maybe I'll try cleaning part of the unit to see what it looks like.

I had a new 15 djc I acquired a few years and took a part from it and went to Roda paint here in Seattle and they a perfect match, and it is a quick dry machinery enamel.
Thier # is 206-547-7405,and there is a black fellow working the counter, name is Nathan i think.
Any way ask for him and he can look up the mix under RP&L Inc, and you can use it in a hand held Wagner sprayer, and you cut it withZylene. They will ship.Suggest you play around and find the right mix,its easy if it globs add a little more thinner,
Would send you some pics, but headed to Winipeg.

Hello all, does anyone know when the Onan switched from the metallic green paint to the plain Onan green? i went and saw an older Onan EK or 45KW unit or some larger unit than my 12.5RJC and the green was metalic looking. im looking to see what year the switch was made for when i repaint mine. i believe the 45kw unit was a 1969 unit that had been stored inside so the paint was still nice. mine is from 1972 and looks like its been outside all its life and am curious as to which paint to use.

Maybe I am being dense, but was one of the above entries for the Metallic Green?

I checked the Napa link, but it did not specify.

Thanks!

Default Re: Onan paint - correct color ready to go - Metallic Green

All,

Since I disassembled my 30EK I took some of the original parts into a paint shop and had them mix and match the color. On the original metallic green parts the color is a great match.

The paint is PPG Shop Line (JE) Prophet Fromula.
Brand Code 47214 main layer

Here are the mixing specs for 1 QT:

Blue Shade Green - 298.4
Trans Yellow Oxide - 64.3
Drier - 18.2
Tinting White - 14.7
Gold Mica - 2.2
White Mica - 17.6
Med. Blue - 13.3
Med Brt Alum - 110.1
Clear - 501.4

You should be able to take the above info and get a matching paint for an original shade. This will not account for sun / oil fading, so be aware that it may be off if you try to match existing paint.

Good Luck!

SEARS has it !! Look up SEARSPARTS.COM and type in part number 525-0305, the Onan part number...I think it is $12.75 per spray can, plus shipping...I think if you order it at a sears part store,,there is no shipping charge if you pick it up.

Happy New year

Uhhh...

First, there is no searparts.com, it is searspartsdirect.com
Second, as started in the earlier portion of this thread, that is the non-metallic paint.

Finally, good job in finding a better price....
