Default MEP003A Parts Numbers

Hi to all my name is Mark and this is my first post to the forum. The reason for my post today is in the preparation of having one of my gensets a MEP003A delivered to my location but with the knowing anticipation that the blower (cooling end) has gotten damaged. While looking at the manuals (I have the op and inter. manual but not the parts manual) I have decided to start searching for the blower fan and parts along with the stator but I do not have the part numbers for such. I found a parts man. on line but it would not down load right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way what voltage did the civillian engines run on 12V or 24V ? Thankyou, Mark H.

MEP003A Gensets are 24 Vdc, while their civilian counterparts are mostly
12 Vdc. The Cooling tins, should be interchangeable between the Military
and civilian models, where as the Genend, AVR, and external Metering and
Electrics are NOT interchangeable.

Mark,
I believe most of the sheet metal on the MEP is military only and not the same as a 12.5 DJC. I have a couple of the DJC power plants that were used on some sort of pumps used by the military and the sheet metal will not fit the MEP-003A. If you PM me your email address, I can send you the parts manual for the MEP-003A.

The MEP-003A also uses an aluminum fan and the power units have cast iron fans. Maybe one of the Onan experts can tell us if the civilian DJC generators use an aluminum or cast iron fan.

David

David,

Thankyou very much for the information and for sending me a copy of the parts manual, this was a tremendous help for me in finding out what civillian parts I can get and what I cannot get. Thankyou again, Mark H.

Actually, the Tins are the same, but the MEP003A has the Oil Cooler Mod, and
a few other additions that are mounted under the Tins, and if you use a Civie
set of Tins, you may have to make some sheet metal Mods for those extras,
and David is right there is a Cast Iorn Flywheel, and an Aluminum one, as well.
Also of note the MEP003A is likely NOT an Onan DJC, but more likely an Onan DJF.
The difference being in the Bore size of the cyl. the later in the Production Cycle,
the more likely it is a DJF.

Mark,
The bore size on the MEP-003A is 3.5" and DJC has a 3.25" bore.

David is correct, the DJC is 3.25" Bore, and the DJF has a 3.5" Bore. A lot
of folks assume that the MEP003A is a DJC, but in reality it is a DJF.

Onan used to have a Delo 100 30Wt for Lubeoil Spec, back in the day when I
had twin DJC's as my main Prime Power Units. This was long before
Multi-Grade Lubricants were around. Now days I use Delo 400 15W40, in ALL
my diesel Units, even when it is well below Zero outside. This has proved
to be a very good LubeOil for me, as I have just retired twin 20Kw Northern
Lights Gensets, with over 60K operating hours, each. I hope to get similar
lifetimes from my new twin N844LW2 Northern Lights 20Kw Gensets, that are
just passed Break-in, with 3K operating hours, Each.

Filters for the MEP003 are readily available from a number of sources. I get mine at NAPA, but I suppose the others are just as good. I found only a Fram source for the fuel strainer, but it doesn't really ever need to be replaced; it is made of thin metal plates and can be cleaned with carb cleaner or similar solvents to be just like new.

Oil Filter: NAPA 1004, Wix 202 C, Fram CH6PL, MS35802-2
NSN 2940-00-580-6304

Fuel Filter cartridge: NAPA 3113, Fram C1125PL
NSN 2910-00-287-1930

Fuel Strainer cartridge: Fram 35070
NSN 2910-00-222-2216

Air Filter cartridge: NAPA FIL 2222, Donaldson P10-1222,
FleetGuard AF437KM

I have found, much to my chagrin, that the wix 33113 (napa 3113) fuel filter is not the correct filter "out of the box". It can be made to work by prying out the gasket retainers and cutting off the fins that block the center hole. Just be very careful not to contaminate the interior of the filter! The filter is also about 1/8" to 3/16" shorter than the original which makes for marginal sealing. Another cork gasket at the top should fix that. If someone knows of a better replacement please share that info.

Peyton
