Default Electric fuel pump

I have tried installing an aftermarket fuel pump rated a 2 to 3.5psi on an SF3.0MP genset. It seems like it keeps getting to much fuel to keep running. I've installed a shut-off valve inline to restrict the flow but that doesn't seem to work either. Does it take a special pump, if so where do I get one. Thanks ahead of time if you can help me.

Have you cleaned the carb? You mighthave dirt in the needle seat or the floats may be sticking or have a hole in them.

Exclamation Re: Electric fuel pump

Ditto on Ben's post - sounds like a carb issue rather than a fuel pump. Gummed or dirt under the stop needle, improper float level, bad floats, and improper pressure setting are possibilities. You can get a fuel pressure regulater, but 21/2 Psi is low to begin with. Do you have a clear filter before the carb? This is available from an auto parts shop, and will tell you if you are getting crud from your tank.
