I asked for information on the Stenn Logging Saw a while ago, but neglected to post pictures. Perhaps this will jog a memory or two and give me some information on this saw, which was apparently invented in the early '40's by a fellow named Stenn in Gananoque, Ontario and built in Montreal, Quebec. It has a Cunningham EA engine as original equipment and comes with two blades (the shorter one is shown). I think that this is the "missing link" between the drag saw and the chain saw.
Any information would be appreciated. |

Yes, this saw was invented by a carreer factory/machine shop worker and inventor who worked in Gananoque and lived in the town in his last years. His name was Thomas STENNIT, origionally from Sand Bay in the Gananoque/Charleston area north of Gananoque.
Years ago I researched his patents on the Canadian site, I have copies, and should not be too hard for you to find too. Some of his family members are still living in Gananoque (I live in Gananoque, and work for the water utility here). |

Olympic, cool saw. Never saw one quite like it before. Have seen plenty of drag saws but none that compact.

Great to see some one interested in the "Sten Saw" as I knew it. I too am from the Gananoque area and worked in the woods in early 50's with my dad who had one (It is still at the farm near Lansdowne- Confirmed with my sister today.)
The two memories I have are; (1)- He was always making replacement leather belts for the "drive system". (2) - Contrary to the posts I have seen we did indeed "fall trees" with the thing by clamping it to the trunk and being prepared to detach and run with it if the blade got pinched in the process. (The engine on ours was built to run in upright or 90 deg position.) (Had to make a very good axe notch to have it work out ok and we never lost a blade.) As noted the saw and the motor (since removed but stored indoors) is at our farm near Lansdowne. Only thing I don't remember seeing is the blade (maybee we did loose one). I am in Nova Scotia now but can be contacted by email at <johnc350@hotmail.com> |

I am writting on behalf of my Father in-law. He has restored a Stin Saw and is looking for a blade.
He would also love any information, documentation on the saw as he takes it on display with him to local fairs and events. Thanks |
