Default David Bradley Chainsaw with alternate blade positions

This was at the Roseboom. NY engine show sunday (279 tractors!), normally it would have only one blade, so putting two bars on it really makes you stop and do a doubletake. The exhibitor told me that the saw worked better for bucking, better balanced, with blade near the center, but had the position offset to one side (like modern saws) for trimming closer to the ground.

I remember Dad's David Bradley with no great amount of affection.
Gear driven, it was almost impossible to stall out ( could be done but you had to work at it) ... its two most endearing features were a diaphragm carburetor (I think I am remembering the term correctly) which let it run laid over on its side or otherwise than dead-upright; the other was its WEIGHT! I think it was 35 pounds or better. You wanted your Wheaties of a morning if you were going to run that saw in the same day!
Oh -- also -- no muffler -- just a ducted port right out of the side of the cylinder. Wear your muffs. I wish I had.

I have a old David Dradley saw just like the one in the pic. You can move the bar from the inside to the outside, or have two bars like in the pic. Don't know why the two bars but it looks mean.

I can picture the part about it being easier to operate for bucking with the blade in the center but I can't picture anything that you would use the 2 blades for, unless they had some kind of a milling attachment for making fence posts or something like that.

The exhibitor said it was not meant to be used with two blades, they just set it up for show with two blades to get your attention, which it does.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, I dunno. It looks like that two-bar setup would work just about right for slicing sausage for a sammich!

old thread but worth reviving, that picture with 2 blades on the saw is knarly

I guess you find just the right size tree trunk to cut into pieces with those 2 blades, not make as many cuts, and have instant firewood without any splitting

Talking Re: David Bradley Chainsaw with alternate blade positions

That model was the "360"
One bar for sure.......In the center for a well balanced all position cut.
Bar on the outside for low stump cutting.
This was a gear saw and the sprocket shaft crossed from one side of the transmission to the other.

FOR A JOKE YOU COULD EASILY MOUNT 2 SPROCKETS/BAR/CHAIN ON THE SHAFT and run the saw....
use it to cut sausages ...maybe!!!!!
