Default Rocking Russkies!

"Prepare yourself for this one - maybe with a Stoli martini or two.

Back in the days of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Red Army had an official choir composed of male soldiers and musicians. It still exists. The Red Army Choir performs throughout Russia to this day.

Now consider the Finnish rock band called The Leningrad Cowboys. A little while ago, they held a concert in Russia, in which - to the screaming applause of Russkie teen-agers - they got the Red Army Choir to join them on stage for a performance of "Sweet Home Alabama." In English. You couldn't make this up.

We're talking seriously off the wall here. Better have that Stoli ready when you watch it:"

Tough for us with dial up, but OMG funny!!

....the Lead Singer is actually our very own Mr. Craig Anderson in a "zoot suit!" and hair extensions! Wonder if that is how he plays the organ on Sunday???

Words escape me. This is awesome, hilarious, and fascinating wrapped in a flaky crust, baked at 375 for 18 minutes and served with a nice dollop of Huh? on top.

Yes, it is weird, but that is the fun! Just the idea of the rigid Russian choir singing back up to an American song is funny. Did you notice their posture??

The band makes quite the fashion statement. It takes me back to the college years.....and the B52's! Love the hairdo's & shoes!

Beth: Came upon this a number of months ago while surfing for "Skynyrnd". Southern rock was/is one of my vises. Have almost every Skynyrd album on vinyl, including their last, which was recalled after the plane crash. Also own most every 38 Special album [Donnie Van Zant] and Rossington Collins [ashes of Skynyrd] and a Johnnie Van Zant vinyl as well. Happen to have a number of Molly Hatchet as well. Was never much into the Alman Brothers [sorry for that].

Travelled a number of years ago to PA. for the Tioga County show near Mansfield PA., and while there frequented a truck stop/bar [about the size of my kitchen] and playing in there was a 7 piece Skynyrd clone band , loud and awesome to say the least.

Boy, I realized my faux pas after I made my last post, when I said " ashes of" I meant as in "phoenix", it was a tragic day indeed and a great loss to the world of music.

Beth, if Craig was the lead singer, does that mean you were one of the those girls dancing on stage?

Andrew,

I rather like the lady in blue with the wild beehive hairdo.....I'd probably look about that dorky if I was dancing too!

But I know better than to dance or sing in public!

The seriousness of the Russian choir counters the silly costumes and hair!...we need to send one of those hairpieces to Craig.........

My sources inform me that; 1. the clip is about 20 years old, seems they used to run it on MTV... and 2. the "Leningrad Cowboys" were a fictional group along the lines of the "Rutles" (or maybe the Monkees)

Allen,

Ah, that means 20 yr old humor is still wonderfully entertaining in a campy manner! It takes away the seriousness of real life...

I heard the original on the radio this afternoon & I just couldn't get this video out of my mind! The fashion police must have a hay day with them!

Sure made the afternoon better!

Thanks Klaus! I didn't catch the framework! I'm still stuck on the fashion....must be a girl thing! It also makes it appropriate for posting on Stak then too!

Nothing beats good old Lynyrd Skynyrd on this song, and the russians left out some of the best parts on the song! Anyway it is diffenent to hear them sing it, gota love them dum sets!

Also in post 13 where they are doing the Stairway to heaven, still not as good as Led Zeplin!

Just me but i gota stick with the classic rock and the origional singers, i hate it when others try to do someone elses song, normally it is never as good!
