Can anyone tell me anything about this little steam? I have a chance to buy it but know nothing...

Tom, I really don't believe that is a toy. Someone went to a lot of effort making it. IT is a beautiful piece. Perhaps someone on the steam or modeling forum will recognize it. IF it is not on Ebay and you can afford it - grab it.

Looks like the back end of a Model #2 Cretors Horizontal oscillator. With the gear and sprocket removed. Along with a modern piping and valve. Problem is when the Cretors engines and the peanut roasters fell out of favor. Families threw them out. That's how my dad got his in the 1960's He didn't want the roaster or boiler so he didn't pick it up. from the trash at the curb! Most that were saved or hidden from the family till now were let go for a song as with the internet and flea bay they took off.

Look at the other post and Harry's picture of the #2 horizontal Cretors. Because the bases were cast iron that was the first thing to get cut off.
