Default 10k Hercules Genset 4A084 III

I have a 1966 military surplus Genset. It is a 10kw unit. It is missing the control unit. The previous owner converted it fron gasoline to propane and sent the controller off to have it wired for a special application. The Manufacturer misplaced the controller, and now it is useless without one.

Do you know who may sell control units or have any that I might retrofit into my genset? Do you know where to find the wiring diagram, maybe I can build a new one?

Here are the specs:

Engine:
Hercules 4 cylinder 84 cu. in.
Model #: 4A084 III
3600 rpm

Generator:
10 kw
Volts: 120/240/208
RPM: 3600
Model #: SF-10.0-MD

Give these folks a call, they handle a lot of mil genset parts. Your control box is not listed so you will have to call them.

http://www.saturnsurplus.com/

or try these folks. Same situation.

Welcome to the forum, Q1.

Controller? What controller? Do you mean the voltage regulator? Or do you mean the entire control box, that includes all the controls including engine relays, voltage regulator, switches, meters, etc.

The wiring diagram is in the manual (not to be a smart ass, but you should get a manul) They show up on eBay all the time.

What was done to convert to LP? Was the original carb removed or modified? Last I knew, Saturn Surplus had N. O. S carbs for these.

The entire control box is missing including the engine relays, meters, outlets, regulator, and anything else that is contained in the large rectangle box on the side.

I tried Saturn Surplus, but they are currently out of stock. I will try armysurpluswarehouse.com (thanks Peyton).

I will look for a manual. If it contains the schematics for the control box, I could probable replicate the unit and get this set back to working. Why buy something for $50 when you can make it for $500.

As far as I can tell, the original carb was modified to run propane. Propane is fine with me, it is cheaper that gasoline in these parts and is readily available.

Even better, in my view, is natural gas ... if you have ng service. The carb should work for either ng or propane but probably need the appropriate regulator. The manuals are available for download from http://www.steelsoldiers.com ... don't remember if you need to register or not.

To let you know the engine may say it is a Hercules BUT the design is MILITARY. You can see MANY differing manufactures of the same engine. These engines are called Military Standard Engines. I have a generator 3K with a 4A032 which is tagged as made by Continetal but was made under a sub-contract by Wisconsin. I resently made this genset dual fuel, Triple if you count NG .
I have some picture I need to get posted and I also have a wiring question that I need to whip-up into a new posting.

Not to hijack the thread Kent, but could you post some pics and some details? I too have a mep016a that I'd like to convert to ng.
