hello,
i bought this welder a few weeks ago and it worked just fine. i charged the batteries and didnt notice that they were still connected to the solenoid, because of that it got fried and i had to get a new one. once i replaced the solenoid i tried to start the engine but it wont spark. the current goes through and the engine turns but it wont stay on because there is no spark going to the engine. the spark plugs are brand new. im thinking the problem is the magneto but i dont want to buy a new one without asking here first. i just dont know whats going on since it was working great before i replaced the solenoid. any help will be appreciated. ![]() ![]() thanks

If it has a magneto there is not connection at all to the electrical system. It is a completely different system on its own. Try removing the small wire from the mag and see if it sparks. That wire only grounds out the mag to shut it off. Without it connected it should start and run. If it does the problem lies in your wiring or switch. If it still doesn't have spark try filing the points in the mag.
Leaving the battery charger on should not have damaged the solenoid! Kelly T |

Pretty sure this one has a magneto. There is a wire (I think leaving the terminal on the points box) that goes to the on/off switch located near the start button. This on/off switch grounds the ignition circuit to stop the engine. By the way, and I hate to ask this question, but did you turn this switch on (which is actually off or open) when you tried to start the engine.

yeah i checked the switch and double checked that all the wiring was ok.

OK, if you have an ohm meter do the fallowing:
1. Remove air filter assy to gain access to the points box 2. Remove all wires (2 I think) from terminal on points box 3. Remove cover from front of points box so you can observe points (be careful not to drop screws down carburetor, maybee you better cover it up) 4. Check resistance from terminal on points box to ground, with points open resistance should be infinate with points closed resistance should be zero (turn engine by hand as needed to open/close points) 5. Check resistance from wire going to on/off switch to ground with engine switch in off position resistance should be zero with switch in on position resistance should be infinate 6. Check resistance from wire going under fan shroud to ground resistance should not be infinate or zero but I don't know what it should be 7. If 6 checks OK switch meter to AC volts and check voltage from this wire to ground while cranking engine, should have something here but I don't know what, probally more than just a few volts.
