Question Parts help for a Sears generator

I'm hoping you can help with a parts problem on my 580326010 sears generator. Long story short is the coil looks like it has a couple hairline cracks in it. The module has melted to a different shape. The root problem is no spark. I found these parts to cost more than I'm willing to invest, and the list I was looking at shows most parts no longer available. Does anyone have any suggestion where to find used parts or a lower cost substitute? Two sources found on line were $200 plus for the coil and from $66 -$140 for the module. Thanks Joe

Is this a Tecumseh engine with the Early Solidstate ignition? If so rhere is a web site called overnight solutins that have a workaround.

I could not find any other placard except the one on the Gen. itself. Hoping the JPG's will help. Thanks Joe

I found the camera. The engine is covered mostly with metal guards. Right now my storage is limited, so I didn't try taking those off. It is a horizontally opposed engine. Big flywheel under the guard. Hope this helps! Thanks Joe

I think the engine is an Onan. Post a picture with the air cleaner removed for a better look at the top of the engine might help. You also might post in the Onan section. If it is an Onan there is a stick post, One that always remains at the top of the page, about electronic ignition conversions. If your coil is bad the re are several option for the part though the flat twin coils are a little special and expensive. I am told you can one from a Harley for about $70. I know one from a flat twin Kohler will work but they are about $120. The good thing is these coils rarely go bag. If this is an Onan the have problems with there points. Again see the conversion to electronic.

The carb look like a Briggs and Stratton, but the intake manifold being split ( Bolted together ) looks like an ONAN. I do not know what engine you have.

Joe,

If you were a little closer you could bring this thing by so I could get a better look. I am north of you, 20 miles north of Springfield MO.
