I am currently restoring a 3 HP McCormick-Deering M. It is an ignitor model. I recently bought an original fuel pump for it. How many check balls should the pump have? What size are they? My pump has one check ball in an external assembly in line with the fuel outlet. Is there another check ball inside the pump?
Thanks. 3 HP McCormick-Deering |

John, The pump must have two check balls and would be the same size I believe The gas is pulled past the lower / inlet line ball, then pushed past the second ball at the outlet connection that goes to the mixer. Hope this helps a little. Joe

If you have the early style pump it only has a check valve under the plunger and a separate check valve assy. screws into bottom of pump. The later pumps have both balls in the pump like Joe describes. Believe the ball under the plunger is 5/16" but may be corrected on this. Ed
