Default Le Roi 4 cylinder

I have a chance to get a Le Roi power unit. I haven't looked at it yet. I was just wondering if anybody has any info on this. Looks to be WW2 era flathead from the picture. I tried a search and nothing comes up for Le Roi.

Ed Malcolm is the "Go to" man on LeRoi engines. He has a good bit of information on them....Maybe He'll see this post, or look him up on the member's list and e-mail or PM him.

Ed Malcolm is undoubtedly the place to start.
My understanding is Beaver engines became LeRoi (late 20's/early 30's??) and LeRoi was then absorbed by Waukesha (1950's?).
Wauk reportedly destroyed all the companys literature and manuals for the smaller LeRoi engines (those reports didn't mention what happened to the parts stock).
Wauk continued the larger LeRoi Industrials for awhile as Wauk Roiline or RoiLine engines ( a few LeRoi V8's, produced for a few years, were the only continuation that I know of from of the smaller engine line).
Maybe Ed can comment on what happened to LeRoi's small engine parts stock...
If that's a military engine, I don't know if LeRoi's militaries had different specs/parts from their civilian versions, as some do..

We have an Army Training Manual TM5-5060 for a LeRoi 4-cylinder OHV compressor set, but as you think yours is side-valve, it may not be any use.

Date is November 1942.

Happy to give you any info out of it.

Lister made LeRoi 1 and 2-cylinder engines under licence in WW2, called the m the Lister G series, available in petrol or petrol-paraffin models.

There are data sheets on them all in the Lister Data section of our websites.

le roi bought beaver engines in 1926. i have an original ad from 1927 saying that beaver engines are now made by le roi. Wabco bought le roi about 1949 and from everything i can gather they discontinued all of the smaller engines and concentrated on oil field engines until 1957 when waukesha bought le roi and climax both. le roi engines after 49 are called le roi roiline. after waukesha bought le roi out the engines were only called roiline. last summer we spent a week at clinton iowa where the climax engine factory was located and where the roiline engines were made until 1988 when everything was shut down and the property sold to con agra. a few months before the plant shut down the local historical societymade a 40 minute video about the plant with a tour of it. one of the people they talked to had been there since 1962 and i believe was an engineering and production supervisor. he still lives in the area and we spent about 3 hours talking into a recorder.he is a veryinteresting person. for the last several years no new engines were built, only enough replacement parts to last for several years. arrow engines in tulsa bought the rights to several of the climax engines as waukesha did not think they would never be needed inthe oil fields again with electricity. WRONG a lot of the power companies no longer want the expense of lines so arrow is building massive amounts of these engines with no end in sight. i have manuals of lots of the different le roi engines. i have never worked on any of the bigger engines/only having the manuals. there no parts available but le roi made many different models and used the same internal parts. so far i have not taken an engine apart that had wear in the MASSIVE bearings. they only pump about 3 ounces of pressure but a huge volume of oil . i will be glad t help out any way i can. ed the le roi man

Well I went and looked at it today. Looks like the weather really got to this one. The pictures tell all. Enough water got into the exhaust manifold that it rusted to pieces. I think I'll pass on this, but if any of you guys want it and want to come down to Houston Texas, I'll pass the phone # on to you.

Vernon: Even though it may just be good for parts, someone somewhere's probably looking for one of these.
Were you able to get a model # or see if it was seized?
Did the owner say where he's advertised it?
If it hasn't been posted around pretty thoroughly, I'll put it on a few forums, just to see if we can save it from being scrapped.
Feel free to email pitybud@msn.com. Many thxx!!

If you can get measurements of the radiator, it may fit one of my LeRoi engines, and I would have no problem paying for it.

You can reply to: sale-895642752@craigslist.org to get the info you want. I'm pretty sure this engine is stuck tight. I couldn't even turn the water pump.
