Default Steam / compressor

I just traded for a [Big} Steam/compressor, no name anywhere! it is eight feet long 30in wide, and about 4000 # steam cyl about 5by5? and comp end about 6by6, neat unit with 30 in flywheels in the middle, any ideas?who would make such a thing-and what it might be used for. thanks d.j.--Idaho

Lots of ice houses had such items. Engine and compressor ran side by side, pumped coolent ect.Just a guess,but is is possible,Jim!

its easy, just get ur pict from your camera,i use boomspeed upload it, right click go to properties, and copy the url. and paste it on optional url her on harrys wonderful site. i was in the same boat youre in. its almost as simple as baking a cake or so they say.--kyle

J D I would suspect that your steam compressor , being as where you live, was used in the early day mining industry. Pressure air was used to run the drills and allied equipment under ground. Many of the early mines used steam power. Expense, availability, and simplicity, being strong factors in the choice. Here in Alaska it is not uncommon to find steam power equipment in the old mining districts, most of which is far beyond repair. Good luck with your find. Carl

I've seen some made by Ingersoll Rand. I know were there are two. The small one has a 17inch bore.
