Default Lost in space (shipping / receiving)

I think I'm in a pickle.. On the 3rd of Oct. I did a buy it now on a part.. On the 7th I emailed as to where it might be and was told it was back ordered but it should be out soon..
Jump forward over several emails to the 27th
I finally get an answer that once it comes, to return for a refund.. Then I get one that gives the tracking number and said it was delivered on the 8th at 1:39 pm

I ran the tracking/ delivery number and sure enough it clocked in at my house per the USPS. Nobody home of coarse..

I don't have the part and it's been so long the mail lady cant remember it.. I think I'm out $ 164.00

USPS would'nt do that in my town,UPS would but they usually hide it in the bushes or throw the mat over it and put a note on the door.
I'd be grouchy with the post office.

She sometimes hangs them on the mailbox in a plastic shopping bag on the flag.. I cant rule out someone picking it off while going past.
I can name all my neighbors for a mile or better and thay all know me for sure, so if it did get set off at the wrong place I would have had a call or visit by now..
If it was a box of jerky I would suspect my BloodHound in a second but thats not the case. I think I'm just snookered.

Randy,
was this part insured by the UPS or mail service ? If so - have the shipper contact them for the money.

Well, as it turns out.. I called the person I bought the parts from and requested a page with all info related to the purchase and shipping info.. I was happy to see the Ins. amount listed as purchase price.. It was too late in the day when I got home from work to catch the post office so I must wait.. I'm wondering though.. since there is a confirmation of delivery number / time, if my claim will get thrown out ?

I do not have the part but the USPS number says I do.. Time will tell Randy

Randy,
years ago... we ordered a browning pistol ...and it was tracked to our doorstep but we never did find it...... they sent another one, and of course we had insurance on it as well. So hopefully this will work out for you.

Update: It turns out if the package is scanned at the delivery point the Ins. will not cover
However the person at the post office asked how and where I recieved my packages from the carrier, In the box, in a shopping bag hanging on the box flag, at my front door, in my spare Dodge seat with a post it note on the inside of the window to tip me off to it being there.. She said the bag-n-flag was against Postal Reg's. and the carrier was warned not to do this in the past.. I'm thinking I hate to see someone loose $164.00 out of their check but so far that someone is me! I'm pondering this question as I drive home from the post office when I see hanging on my neighbors box flag a blue plastic bag with a package in it Now I've decided that I've learned many of life lessons the hard way$$ and so I guess my carrier will learn theirs

Now I'm getting the run around from the post Mistress person.. I'm about to take it to the next level and see if that sorts out the knots any faster.. She rolled her eyes when she saw me walk in the other day and That thrilled me to death..
It's winter time now and I have nothing better to do than be her PIA

We must have the same mail lady. Every now and then I get the plastic bag on the flag. And here I thought I was the only one. If it is light enough she just ties it to the flag with a heavy rubber band.

Every time something is sent to me insured I have to sign for it or they wont leave it. Of coarse I am never home when they come so they leave a card in the box and I have to drive 8 miles to the post office to pick the package up.

The starting post was 11/1/08 on this one.. I went to the post office Sat. I asked for two books of stamps and when she asked if there was anything else ? I said well, it's been almost a year since my $164.00 insured package was lost and you said you would get my money back.. I could sure use my 164.00 She looked at me and said to come back Saturday
10/17/09 and she would have my money.. I'll let you know how it works out.. 0.10 on the dollar is my bet.

Unhappy Re: Lost in space (shipping / receiving)

I had a similar situation with a UPS package that was left outside my door while I was at work a few years ago. Paid for the items, but never got them.... I contacted the seller two weeks later and they gave me a tracking number which UPS was able to confirm delivery with. They (UPS) had always stuck packages inside my breezeway door out of sight, but apparently they had a new driver that day and he left it out on the sidewalk in front of the breezeway.

I was expecting another package in the mail around the same time that I never got either, so I suspect someone driving by saw the big box and knew my car was gone, so they grabbed it and emptied the mailbox at the same time.

Unfortunitely I had no proof in either case so it was pointless to file a police report. I ended up setting things up with UPS that they Do Not Leave packages if I'm not home, I drive 7 miles to pick them up myself. Lost a $38.00 package, (& a $27.00 book in the mail), but at least I told them never to leave anything again BEFORE my $480.00 steam engine casting kits showed up. I would have been really P.O.'d if that got stolen ! Also got a new P.O. Box in town and had as much mail as I could changed to that address other than junk mail and two bills that have to use the street address.

What really sucks is first you lose money and valuables, and then you have to spend even more money to keep it from happening again !

Well, I'm back from the post office and the bank I walked in and she looked up and said Hi and said where did I put the paperwork you gave me ??

I pulled a copy of the ebay invoice out of my pocket and she kinda grinned and punched a postal money order in for 164.59 and out the door I went and straight to my bank to cash that sucker before the ink faded away to nothing.

She mentioned that delivery confirmation would be a good thing in the future.. I said that with this lesson learned I believe I'll have no problems in the future.

Do ya think I should have held out for intrest ?
164.59 @ .0000125 % lol happy ending. Now I need to stimulate the economy a little.. Randy

Thumbs down Re: Lost in space (shipping / receiving)

Be happy you got your money! I was scammed out of over $300, by a non-shipper. Because it was more than 30 days after I paid for item, Paypal and EBay refused to make good.

Red face Re: Lost in space (shipping / receiving)

I got screwed out of $1200.00 for an engine in a basement near Boston Mass., that was listed as pickup only, but then the seller said he could get me a pretty low shipping quote on it and save me the trip. I kept waiting to hear back from him, tried contacting him several more times to get a street address, and finally filed a PayPal dispute on it. PayPal backed him because it was listed pickup only, and I never got my engine or my money back. Boston's a pretty big place to go door to door looking for an engine that may not even exist, plus it's a long ways away from home when you don't even know where you're going once you get there. Boston Police had No record of anyone there with the name he gave.

Only good thing is he eventually got banned from eBay, but not until he had already scammed a dozen other people on fake jewelry and camera's
