Hi all...
I need to add a chainsaw sharpener to my shop. I've looked at several manufacturers/vendors; kind of leaning toward an Oregon 511A or AX. Getting a lot of calls for chain sharpening and want to invest in a long-lasting and quality unit!! All opinions welcomed!!! Thanks, everybody!!! Tom

I have the Oregon 511A sharpener and have been very happy with it. There are HF and other chinese cheap pieces of do-do, you get what you pay for. Oregon chainsaw loops is what they do. Now if you have alot of chains to do there is an automatic chain sharper by Frazen, Stens is the US distributor, they are a great machine but they cost around $30,000. Chains are like brand new perfect every time.

I have a 511a also. None better for the money. I think Oregon has a model 511 that is a little cheaper but it has a plastic base and isn't quite as acurate. You can find them new on the net for around 300.00. Spend the money and get the good one. It will last you a lifetime.

Hi again everyone!
Taking your advice and doing more research into this, I'm going to purchase a 511 AX sharpener by Oregon. This will handle all chains---the area I'm in is BIG saw country!!! Thanks again to all!!!!!!!

In my chainsaw days, I had ONE chain sharpened by machine. After that, I got a correct file and learned to file 'em. That was about 35 years worth of chain sawing. AND, I still had the same two chains for each saw (the teeth were getting a mite short, though).
I always carried a spare sharp chain in a jar of oil and only had to swap 'em in the field twice when I hit nails and didn't want to take the time for all that filing. Otherwise, when the chain started getting dull, I'd just take a break and give it a touch up with the file and go back to work. Take care - Elden (who got rid of his chainsaws a couple of years ago! )
