Bought this engine for $300, runs great. It has absolutely no identifying markings except -
Serial number – KA153378 Might be a Stover? I am looking for any available information on this engine. I want to restore it to original. It appears it was painted black. The flywheels are silver on the rims and white in the center. There is a square area on the side of the water reservoir where it appears there once was a decal. What is the correct paint scheme for the engine? Can I get a replica decal(s)? Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Your engine was built in 1922, and is a 1-1/2 hp Stover KA. Most Stovers I see from that era are mostly green, but there is always exceptions. decals are available from suppliers on Harry's sponsor page, Hit n Miss enterprises, or Starbolt both should have decals.

Definitly a Stover KA, god deal on the engine there is a book all about Stover engines, it's called power in the past volume 3 by ch wendell. In the gas engine magazine there is a section about stover engines, you can email them for the history on your engine. Hope this helps

I REALLY appreciate the responses! Thanks!
I did a bit of research and see Stover made engines for Sears, maybe some others. Wonder if this might be one they made for another manufacturer and that is why it was painted black? You can see some of the remaining black paint on the water reservoir in the pics I posted. I would like to put it back to as original as possible. |

Mike,
It's not a Stover made for Sears ... they have three tear drop openings in flywheels & more rounded corners on hopper ... not black either. Give it a good cleaning, check in protected areas for original paint. Paint on hoppers is one of the first places to go due to the heat. |
