I recently bought a F-M engine(I think) and dont know which one it is .I want to use this engine to pull a cane mill(9inch) I was told that it is a 1927 model but the guy had less knowledge than I do.I have restored a IH la 1 1/2-2 1/2 and a couple of tractors. But I am totally clueless about other brands. This engine runs but it needs some TLC to make it right to be used.I am not interested in making a "show stopper" just a dependable every day runner that will be worked. The engine has a 4 1/2 bore and 6 in stroke and has 520635 stamped on top of the hopper at the front..any help would be appreciated ...Thanks

A ZC would have an enclosed crankcase an no greese cups on the main or rod bearings, So it must not be a ZC.

Howdy Tom, found some info that might come in handy for 1918 the type z engines sold for $66 and $119 of throttling governor design these engines were well adapted to kerosene and other low grade fuels. The low tension ignition was featured on early models using a sumter plugoscillator a combo mag and igniter.
