Please, need help on removing my hercules zxb engine from the 120v 3kw 1phase generator. What type of coupling and how does it get removed?

Here is a scan of the PU-286/G that uses the Hercules ZXB engine. The manual also shows a step-by-step set of instructions for removing the genhead from the engine. It covers three pages so it will have to be sent via email. Let me know if you need it. Hope this helps Merry Christmas Don

Please refer to response #2 with the M-5 diagram. I have the engine from one of these units that another guy had removed the generator from. I never saw the generator but did receive the "flange, driving" as per the diagram.
I also got the corresponding pieces that attach to the flywheel and mate up with the generator driving flange. Note the 4 good sized holes around the center hole of the diving flange. Four rubber "donuts" insert in these holes and there are 4 "drive pins" incorporated into the flywheel drive parts that are a snug slip fit into these rubber bushings. I haven't looked at these parts in about a year thus don't recall everything exactly. I do believe, though, that if you unfasten the generator mounting bolts, both on the base foot and any that attach to the bellhousing of the engine, you can then just pull the generator away from the engine and things will separate at the 4 rubber bushings. This is assuming that the M-5 Hobart and your O. & M. have the same kind of coupling. Also, I can't tell you how the generator housings are held together and wouldn't you to separate the generator housings unexpectedly, so keep that stuff bolted together, perhaps, until otherwise ready to separate them! The diagram suggests to me that the generator housing on the drive flange end "inserts" into the engine bellhousing and a bolt-up to the engine occurs there. In a few days, I might be able to gather the drive flange parts I have and post a photo or two. Does your generator housing design resemble the M-5 in the diagram to any degree? Perhaps another reader can corroborate or correct errors?? |

Thanks, yes almost looks the same, think the coupling will work the same. Merry Xmas
