A few ago I asked how to tell the difference between a United or Associated engine. This is the engine. It has a gray base and frame and the hopper and flywheels are green. # on hopper 17530 ... main frame 17515. ... 17.5" x 2" flywheels. Does anyone know which one it is?

Just curious if anyone knows who built this engine. I think its a United ... but not sure ....
I have seen on line some Galloways that have a similarity.

Thanks Ragu

My guess is Associated due to the goose neck ignitor trip, I don't recall United using that type, I know Associated did. I am somewhat puzzled about the paint color though. On second thought it may be a Wonder cement mixer engine which was a contract engine built by Associated, I believe they were green and silver.

I stand corrected! Good point about the 2 piece hopper and cylinder, did't know about United and the goose necked ignitor trip.

Ragu, you have a United. The hopper bolts onto the sub-base from the top. Associated engines bolted the hoppers onto the sub-base from the front. Associated made the parts for the United engines. I am sure when they started using the over trip (gooseneck), they also supplied them for United engines also. I have an original Associated engine in a Wonder cement mixer and the drum is driven by a chain. The sprocket is on the outside of the RH flywheel and sticks out of the metal housing which covers the engine. I would doubt this engine went on a mixer, maybe a gear driven pumping outfit.
Good luck, Joe

Thanks Joe ! I really appreciate the info. I think your right that it may be off a pump jack with the gear on the crank. I wounder who may have used these 2 colors,or was this just another United color offered?

Ragu

It was probably the color specified by the manufactuer of the machinery that the engine was running. That would be an interesting project to research if possible...

Harvey,
I'm pretty sure you got it right, it is an Acadia. They are a very close copy of the United, but the shape of the hopper & the casting numbers give it away.

I think your engine was built by Acadia in Nova Scotia, Canada. The casting numbers all start with 175 meaning it is a 1.75hp (1-3/4) engine.
