Default CONTINENTAL Red Seal 4 cylinder flat head engine

i got an old lincoln arc welder model 200SA it runs on a CONTINENTAL Red Seal 4 cylinder flat head engine anyone know where to get parts to repair a governor. we contacted a lincoln dealer and he said that the welder was built in the 30's..it's almost the same engine that u would find in an 8N ford tractor the only differance i saw was that the ford had a distributor and the welder has a magneto ignition.any info on the welder would be great!!!!thanx

Does the governor have any ID info on it?? I think Cont used different suppliers; if you can ID the gov it'll be a big help.
The engine should have a tag on it (Cont didn't always put them in easy to spot places) giving the engine model and serial #.
Once you ID the engine (assuming gov parts are no longer available thru local sources) contact montesequipment.com, dealers in obsolete Cont parts; I don't know if they stock gov parts, but should be able to at least ID the gov in your installation, and maybe suggest places to try.
Try running the archives here; there's been previous posts about Cont gov's, and a parts source may be mentioned, or an alternative hookup. Good luck.

I have a 1969 army welder with the flathead 6 in it (continental) and It has a slick magneto on it. the military used aircraft mags for there stuff. Try parossmachinery.com they are in dallas and seem to know every thing about continentals.
good luck

Most likely it is a version of the F-400 series engines. Look on the block for some casting numbers. There are at least 3 different types of mechanical governors that can be found on their engines. Do you have pictures of the governor?
