It is a IHC Type M. The three mixture needles are for Petrol (Gasoline), Kerosene & Water. The water is to stop pre-ignition when running on kerosene.

Well It's a 6Hp. Type M I wouldn't have a clue about value except to say I've bought 2 of them in the last 2 years and the most I've paid for good complete engine is $750 US Dollars. Now the orginal cart for these 6 Hp. M's is a different story. I bought 2 carts as well in the last year or so gave in the neighborhood of $1000 each for those. The carts are a lot more rare than the engines.

But like they say " Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

As far as age goes, knowing the serial number on the tag will date it for you. Before you ask, if there is no tag, the number was not stamped anywhere else so you won't be able to precisely date it. It can at least be narrowed down from 1918 (when they introduced the 6 hp M's) to 1924. I believe the 6 hp's went to sparkplug starting with the 1925 model year.
Standard pricing for the 6 hp "M"'s over here ranges from 800-1200 bucks. Nicer examples bring more money, like ones on trucks or having a belt pulley or a clutch pulley. Also, the 6 hp M heads were prone to freezing and many have had crack repairs. A 6 hp M with a "clean" head could command a few more dollars too.

Thank you for your informations , my interest for US engine is growing and i can see that the spares are more easily available for an IHC than for a Worthington , does it mean that the IHc are more common than a Worthington , or that an IHC was a better engine,i join 2 other photos Roland

I would say there are a "LOT" more IHC than Worthington engines.

The IHC Ms in the 1.5, 3, and 6 horsepower varieties are likely one of the most common engines in the US. There was also a 10 horsepower version of the M, but that one is quite a bit more rare.

Parts are easy to find here in the US, with the exception of the aforementioned 6 hp M heads, which are seemingly all broken from freeze cracks, etc.

All of the M engines are throttle goverened as opposed to hit and miss.

I believe that the IHC / McCormick M was the most prolific engine in North America. (I have five of them) Andrew can correct me on facts of that one. That would be followed by Fairbanks Morse engine line. I also think that Worthington did not produce engines anywhere near as long and also tended to head to the larger engine market towards the end of its life span. The Worthington catalog I have really emphasized the larger engines.

If I could get a worthington... sigh.
