I really like the idea of this thing. Plugs in, between utlity meter and meter socket.

Some power companies will sell you a transfer switch adapter that simply plugs between your meter and its existing socket. You plug your generator into the adapter.

Vaughn-

I called the FPL number and found that their "One Plug" switch was made by Generlink (.com).

The FPL web site indicated that the program would eventually be expanded outside the Miami area, but it seems that is not going to happen. They said that when the existing supply has been installed, the program will end. I wonder if that is because of a large number of problems encountered?

It may be possible to have a local licensed electrician install one of the units. The Generlink web site has an order form you can download, but there is no mention of price.

All of the modern versions of this that I have seen seem to be limited to 50 amps on the generator side.

More likely because the world did not exactly beat down their door clamoring to have them installed. Most folks just go to Home Depot and buy a generator, without a lot of thought about how they will connect it, or fuel it, or...

The model I was talking about is a 100 amps on the gen side and 200 on the service. Would really like to find on of these.

Milmaint,

It will probably be a pretty rare find, if you can find one of those old ETU's at all.

I don't think you'll find anything similar today (Generlink or otherwise) with a 100 amp generator rating. With the quality of todays meter box arrangements, I would hate to see one of those devices hanging there with a 100 amp cord's dead weight hanging off of it.

A manual double throw switch that is positioned between the meter and your service panel is probably about the most economical route to go, for total house back up potential or load managing by breaker selection in your existing panel.
