Default Gold mine motor

This motor came from an old gold mine on the Fraser River BC. The cyclinder is 4.5 ", the stroke approx 9", flywheels are 25" in diameter, the head gasket looks to be made out of lead. Id tag is missing and it was on the left hand side looking from the had.lkirk@telus.net

larry

im not sure about bore and stroke spec you gave as i have no data to refer to but after thinking about it i belive its a 4hp its hard to tell from the pic on the size, but the head studs make me think its larger than what i said before.

Yep, for sure this is a waterloo boy... likely sold by T Eaton. It still has evidence of the red paint and the hopper is unmistakeable. Did you find the caps for the crank shaft connecting rod? The horse power should be stamped there. I likely have some parts for this one. Check out my gallery at

http://www.engineutopia.com/gallery/...neengines.html

if you scroll down to the waterlooboy there are pictures.

On second look, I am not sure why there is a groove in the flywheel. This is an interesting one.

Yeah, it's Waterloo built, not a Waterloo Boy. I would also guess Eaton or Smyth, could be one of several other red ones. Would also guess that someone cut a groove in the flywheel for a V-belt. 4 1/2 X 9 would be a 4 or 5hp depending on who slapped the tag on it.

Hi,
Your engine looks just like my 4 or 5HP T.Eaton (waterloo made). Do you have any of the missing parts? you may want to search a large area where it was found, also do you take any treasure as found photos?!. I ended up making a lot of parts for mine including a new pushrod with the roller so if you need parts made maybe something can be worked out? Nathan.

Your engine fits the dimensions of a 4-1/2hp Waterloo built T. Eaton Co. engine. Check for the serial number stamped on the end of the crankshaft:
