Met a man that has this for sale, and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what model it is. He said it looks like it says weeden on the tag. Is ita good starter engine? He said it hasent ran in quite sometime.

I would say it's a good starter engine, especially if you're looking for one to play with. It's missing the smokestack, but you should be able to find one by picking up a "donor" engine at a flea market.

hello again
look closely at the firebox/black base, it has been cut up and modified.

Hi I would say that it looks like a chopped up Flieshman boiler and part of the firer box has been modified to a sloppy fit.The flywheel and steam cly. are from something else. Jim

yes JIM

i started collecting these things by the dozens and fixing them up and making parts ect..good hobby. but when i got my first hit n miss i kinda lost alot of steam and switched.one good thing about the toy steamers is they dont seem to take up alot of valuable shop space.

back to the original post...i tried to up load a pic of a 123 i have but couldnt for some reason so if the member would email me ill send you a pic that way.

Thanks for the replys, I looked up a pic of the model 123 and it does seem like it to me. Theman wants $30 for it, is it worth that considering the missing parts/mods?

hello

i think i got my pic attached this time, you can compare the differences.

i belive all your parts are correct but as for the price its up to you.i have seen this model go for $100.00 to 200 + depending on basicly how many people want it....this as other Weeden models is a popular one for collectors.

personally i have not bought a toy steam engine yet that didnt have something wrong with it or something missing but thats half the fun to get it going.

you could get it running with the cut up fire box as it has no effect on the performance but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If that is the remnants of a decal on the front that is the correct boiler. Somebody just butchered a replacement firebox, but it probably suited their purpose.
I have two 123's the one with the red firebox has a chimney and no decal, the one with a gray firebox shows no sign of ever having a chimney but has the decal like yout pic. If the parts are there, not much can prevent them from running. Put some oil on the moving parts (don't forget the oscilating valve), 2 or 3 lbs. of air to the boiler and spin it over. It'll go.

As far as I am concerned that is a good price in that condition. I've seen just the Weeden cylinder go for 40.
