Resembles a Cornell, about 12 h.p.. They were sold by J. M. Ross here in Ontario. A friend has one very much like it.

Hi Tim

Unfortunately I don't have any more information about the location of this picture. It was just an unlabelled photo I found on my hard drive, but I couldn't match it with anything I'd seen before.

All the best

David

Tim: That was my thought exactly when I saw the little Cornell here. I thought I was looking at small Sawyer, right down to the front axle, but Onkle G informed me otherwise.

I think this is in the BC Forest Discovery Center in Cowichan, BC.

I don't remember the engine, but the background makes it a likely choice for location. Looks like their main exhibit hall. They do have an English roller in the collection on display in one of the vehicle sheds and some other steam throughout. Nice train ride as well, well worth a stop if your in the area.

It's at the BC Forest Museum @ Duncan, BC. Cornell or early Waterlơo perhaps?

Turns out it's a Waterloo, at least according to the sign next to it - have a look here:

Dave
I would agree 100% on it being a Waterloo. The way the wheels are built are one indication.Just the overall look from a side view.
Thanks for the update.

Colin F.

I had to drag this thread up because I am in Ladysmith BC for a few days. I am going to try to get over to that museum (if it's open) and see what that engine is and what else is there. I will have to look over the Shay Loco out in front. My father-in-law lives here. It is sure beautifull over here! Even if it is rainy and cool.

Yup-they've got a good steam collection over there, including a nicely restored Ruston-Proctor SCR roller, a bunch of donkey engines, locos, etc.

Enjoy!

Its possible the engine is a Haggert (built in Brampton) Haggert Bros Foundry precedes the J M Ross. They built the Cornell engine as well. The large dia stack with big top looks like a picture i have somewhere of Haggert. A JM Ross picture i have shows a small stack (smaller dia & top ring more like Sawyer or Waterloo.
