Default Any guesses?

This engine was converted to an air compressor. There is a Ser.No. B4626 stamped on a motor mount, and no other Id's except casting numbers.
The frame it's on may be from a Durant, the drive engine is a 4-cyl. Durant Star.
This in a portable whatchamacallit that some miner probably built in the 1930's. There is a winch also attached to the same drive line as the compressor.

Cool Re: Any guesses?

I am almost sure it is not a buick , all buick's that I have seen are overhead valve , but their is always an exception .

I'm not a Durant expert but I don't think Durant or Star used an engine that had the cylinders cast as twins and bolted to an aluminum crankcase.

I believe that they had a small L head 4-banger whose cylinders and block were cast in one piece.

Take care - Elden

The pics don't show it very well but this engine as an aluminum block.

This thing was found at a small mine site back up in the mountains near here. In the late 20' & 30's it was common for the miners to convert car engines into air compressors to run their drills.

Well It's a buick 1914 to 1915 model b25 the valve cadges have been removed on top of the jug heads for the air compressor conversion. you will notice on the water pump side of the engine 8 aluminum plugs in the block, that is where the lifters would have been mounted. depending on how the jugs were modifyed for the compressor junk on top is going to tell you if it's worth anything or if it could never run again. If you want to sell it I know people who might be Interested. I know all this because I own a 1914 buick model b37 witch is the bigger 4cly car.
