Default Remington chain Problem

Concerning our Remington silver logmaster chainsaw, after proper chain adjustment it's eaither too tight or way too loose and you try to spin the chain by hand and it acts like it's binding on the clutch. The chain originally in question is stamped 65 chain. It is a really agressive chain. SO, we switched bars and put another chain on. This time a 62 chain less agressive with improvment but still something just doesnt seem right. The clutch is wore BUT i've seen worse clutches and they still spun like clock work. Does anyone know the proper chain for a silver logmaster? I looked on that chainsaw site but it doesnt tell me enough to be any kind of useful too me and i know i cant get anything remington brand anymore. Inless it was an electric modern saw which this is not. The 62 chain that seemed to improve symptoms refrences to a D196 oregon chain as stated on that site so im assuming it is? the correct chain? All i know is the 65 chain is way too agressive were the clutch drives it (forgot the proper wording) and the 62 seems to be better but it's still not an 100% perfect, great, thats it, sorta thing.

Sky,
What you are dealing with is either a chain that has a different pitch than the sprocket, or the sprocket is worn too much for the chain, or the chain is stretched too much for the sprocket. As a chain is used, the rivets get smaller and the holes wear bigger so the chain stretches, or gets longer. The sprocket will wear as the chain wears so they still mesh. That is why the sprocket gets the grooves in it.
Best practice is to rotate 2 chains with one sprocket so they all wear evenly together, and replace as a set.
Now when we start dealing with this old stuff you end up with oddball mismatches and even old chain that had a pitch that is no longer available.
Check Acres site and see what info might be posted for the saw as far as original pitch goes, that may help.

I have a SL5 logmaster here, and it uses 7/16 chain

Measure your chain!

Measure the distance of 3 rivits, and divide by two. That is the pitch of the chain.

Most likely you are trying to use .404 on it....
