Default Indian Lister-like diesels

Greetings,

Any opinions out there about the Lister copy diesel being manurfactured in India under many different names? Anybody got one? They are most commonly found in a vertical 6hp single or 12 hp twin.

Any info appreciated.

I think I saw a couple of those on ebay. They said new engine but were clearly old style with big flywheels. I know you can buy new Royal Enfield Motorcycles made in India and the are almost identical to the ones made in the 50s

I have seen one of them running at Portland for the last few years but have also heard that they are not that great. Seems that I was told that they need some work done to them to get them to run right and they are cheaply made but since I don't have one (no plans of it either) I can only repeat what I have heard.

These engines were being imported into the U.S. and sold here a few years ago. Due to government regulations, no more can be imported.

I have one of the 6 hp. models with the compression changeover valve. I bought it from Mike Montieth in Rutherfordton, NC. The govt. (EPA) stopped importation of more. I think Mike has a few left if you want one. The paint is a little rough (actually very rough) and they are a little rough around the edges, but all in all they run well and start very easy. Feel free to contact me off list for more info. I can put you in contact with several owners if you want more info. Over a year period, I either hauled or helped haul 6 of them back home for friends.
