Default Davis-Galloway engine

I just picked up a very rusty and very stuck engine. It is an early Davis-Galloway ( I think ). It has a 3 7/8" bore and a 5" stroke. The exaust and intake are both on the bottom of the head. It has a 2 pc. block with the casting # Y203 ?? on the base. The rear siderod block is about 2" square with babbit around the rod. There is no mixer, and most of the siderod is rusted away.Is there anyone who might have one of these that could answer a few questions for me ?---Thanks ----Roland Finkenbinder

3 7/8 X 5 bore would probably make it a 1 3/4 HP engine.

Yep, you've got a 1 3/4 hp early Galloway engine. It looks like this one, right? It's the sister to the 1 3/4 hp air-cooled Galloway. The 1 3/4 hopper cooled ones aren't too plentiful. They were made from about 1907 to 1915. Can you find a number stamped on the end of the crankshaft? Good luck with it. John

Yes, thats the same engine. Its doubtful if I can find a # on the crank, it's so rusted that it's unusable. What type of mixer did this model use ? Is this your engine John ? Thanks---Roland

Hi Roland,

It's mine, though I haven't been able to get it running yet. The rings just aren't tight enough & it's got no compression. The mixer is an old brass Lunkenheimer. John
