Default Generac XP8000E Opinions

I'm looking at this unit as a household back-up generator. Anyone out there have any experience with this unit. I would mainly run it for refrigeration and deep well pump in case of a power failure. I also plan on using it with a 110 or 230 volt welder occasionally to make me crank it and keep it maintained. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Eric

We had an ice storm here several weeks ago. There were portable generators of all ages, sizes and brands in use. I saw 3 similar Generac units that began to leak engine oil after about 30 hours. One was still running, the other 2 were said to have "blown up".

Nothing like a Generac to look VERY Good in the store, but FAIL once it gets home, in short order. You would be MUCH better off to get a Honda, or one of the commercial units, (Onan, Kohler, etc) if your serious about Backup Power.

Well Dick you had better guard the one you have. I had two in a movie equipment company. Both the same model. One ran with no problems at all. The other one stopped at least once a day. Went through control boards and regulators like candy.

The general consensus is that generacs are pretty much the yugos of the generators.
