I already posted this at Magnus site but now have some new info to add.
I got this one last week. It has been sitting in a shed for 30 years, and is corroded and filled with mud dauber nests.
I was very sorry to see that it was not packed very well and the handle got broken in shipping.
Although it is made from magnesium, it might as well be unobtanium since I doubt anyone has a spare unless Magnus is willing to part out one of his… Not likely!
So I used my trusty Dremel and cut a grove in the handle under the trigger, drilled a hole in the flange, and used my little bending jig to shape a ¼” rod with threads on one end into a holding piece to bolt it back together.
And now is probably stronger than it ever was.
Here is the tag and I found out that the H stands for 1957.
And it is a BLK 58 at 5.5 HP.
It is missing the heat shield and the engine is seized. Most of the slot head screws have corrosion growing around them. I had a hard time getting the handle screws out so I am not too sure about a complete teardown. I will probably just clean it up as an example of an old STIHL.
