Default Alyn Foundry RLE Engine Kits

Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if the Alyn foundry is under new management or if someone is selling their old stock of casting kits? I'm interested in their RLE engine kit. Here,s what I could find on them at the Davis family site.
Alyn Foundry. Website Out of Business.
Tuttle St. Wrexham. Clwyd. LL13 7AA England Gas engine kits, Gardener, RLE, Retlas. Hotair kits, Robinson Chippy, # 4, Gas Isac F Allman, Hot bulb oil & Flame licker engines.
Thanks, Mike M.
P.S. If anyone has a RLE kit they'd like to sell let me know.
Thanks again, Mike M.

I believe that they are permanently out of the casting kit business, but I'll ask Reg Ingold in Australia, he knows most of the model casting people and what they are doing.

I am in loose contact with Graham Corry - the owner of Alyn Foundry. He stopped production last April for a number of reasons, health and foundry problems among them. Also some of the patterns were stolen from the foundry, but at least the masters are safe.

There was talk of the business being transferred to another establishment, I am not at liberty to say who at the moment, but so far nothing has transpired. Graham still retains all the patterns but he has no stock of complete casting sets. I got the last two Robinson Hot Air kits from him and they went to the US privately.

If there is any update on the above, I will post it here.

Hello Gents,

I too am interested in this topic as I've acquired the estate of a master craftsman who recently passed away. Included in the inventory is a partially completed R.L.E. engine (Serial #290). I am missing the engineering drawings and a few pieces. The engine base, main frame, cylinder and water hopper are all there and mostly machined, as well as the two flywheels. Although I am still carefully unpacking the shop boxes, I have not found the cylinder head, etc.

The drawings are the most important thing for me right now. If anyone has an extra or unneeded set of drawings kindly email me.

Warmest regards,

Mike DiGirolamo,

Alyn kits have started to be produced again, at the moment its just the Gardener but others should follow, see this post

The contact at Anson mentioned that they will wait to see how the Gardner interest fares before determining whether/when other kits will follow. I've asked them to note my interest in the Retlas and Sphinx. Might not hurt for others to reach out and let them know what the level of interest is.

Thank you JasonB for the update.

If anyone should hear about new models, casting kits or any updates to existing models please email me.

Better to get it from the horses mouth!!

Due to a great amount of family illness and the closure of a Great Iron foundry. I decided to give Alyn Foundry a rest.

But now the Anson engine museum is going to quietly start bringing the kits back to life. As you are already aware the Gardner is the first off, and I can reassure you all, that it is of the same high standard and quality Iron that we got a name for when we started over 25 years ago!

With luck the R.L.E. should follow later this year but it was one of the kits that had a plate stolen for scrap metal!!!
Luckily I still have the wooden primary masters to create Aluminium masters with.

I also noticed someone was looking for missing castings to a kit. I still carry a small stock of spares for all the kits we used to sell and I also have all the drawings.

Please do not hesitate to contact me by email........

graham@alynfoundry.co.uk

I would like to thank you all for your support over the last 25 years and wish the Anson Museum good luck in this new co opperation.

Best wishes to you all, Graham R Corry.

Question Re: Alyn Foundry RLE Engine Kits

Graham,
Did the police catch the crook that took your patterns? Did you recover any of them?
Andrew?

Hi Andrew,

No, they got clean away with it!! They actually stole well over £20000 worth in Plates and probably only got a few hundred in cash. It spelt the end for the Foundry!

Tis now but a housing estate, such is the way of life!!

All the best Graham.

Hi,
I know this is an old thread but wonder if anyone has a set of drawings for the Alyn foundry RLE and X type 'Chippie' engines. I have a full set of castings for both engines but no drawings. Can anyone help please.

Thanks
ott

Hi Ott

Can help you with the RLE plans. My plans are old and torn but should be able to scan them although some lines are faint - the originals were not very good many years ago. Should be able to get it all on 10 sheets or so (A4 over here, slightly different to your US letter size)but will probably not be exactly to scale. I will be scanning some large sheets so if I miss an overlap you will have to let me know.

PM me with your email and I will see what I can do.

regards

Peter
