Default Sideshaft....who made it?

Hi, What is this engine?!

It appears to be a sideshaft. The hopper looks like an IHC Famous to me. Did they make a sideshaft engine?

Thanks,

Dan Wiese

If it was originally sold in Canada, it may possibly be tagged as a Renfrew engine.

Well, the auction's over now so out with it . Was it a Renfrew tagged engine and what's the hp ? I know it ain't a 7.5 hp IHC stationary engine as advertised for the sale . I heard it's gone from Alberta to Minnesota.

Andrew,

It was a Renfew tagged Christensen. 8 hp. Mostly complete. Missing the usual things...muffler, crank guard, battery box. Looked like the original fuel tank was with it. All the fuel system and ignition system was present. Everything was seized up tighter than a cow's butt in fly time... and there were a couple frost cracks on the cylinder water jacket. The bevel gears were quite rusted and may need to be replaced. And there was an unusual clutch pulley. I did not expect to see one with a handle engage mechanism on an engine like that. Ones like you see on a Myrick or Cushman binder engine.

A very nice, very restorable engine.

It did go to Minnesota for a price of $4400 Canadian...maybe that was the last asking price.

There was a bit of confusion when the bidding started. The auctioneer was suddenly asking for $6000. When they got that sorted out, the bidding started over.

email me sometime

I have some pics that I will post. It was a chilly but bright day and every local engine collector was there. It was good to see old friends again at the first major auction of the season.

I would love to ask the buyer (who is on this site) what it would take to keep it here in Canada and here in Alberta.
