Just got this one in last week. A 1993 Russian Druzhba new in the box. This is absolutely the roughest looking manufacturing I have ever seen. Very crude finishing and workmanship.
![]() It is a gear drive with a rotating head for felling. I am afraid to try and run it since I don't want anything to break!!! Here is the stuff that came with it: ![]() I put it all in a case to keep up with it. The starter does not attach permanently, you place it on the saw and twist it, then pull the braided steel cable to start it, then take it off. All the spare parts were wrapped up in folded wax paper. The owner's manual is all in Russian of course so I took it to work to have a Russian friend there look at it with me. It is a model 4M. It has a 1 year warranty!!! He recalls that this type of saw has been around for years with basically no changes, and that they were relatively expensive and even so not too well thought of. He told me of a friend that had one kick back and climb up his side and got him in the neck and face. Something like 400 stitches! For sure it does not have a chain brake... Eddie |

Looks like something Freddy Kruger would use
. With that handlebar set up, it looks downright dangerous! What oil/fuel mix does it use? have you run it? Looks like a neat display piece though![]() Andrew

Hello sawcollector
t That thing looks wild,it does look a little simplistic, but don't somethings look that way and then are easy to repair when broken.Any chance of a few closeups. Thanks Lawrence |

Thanks for the replies guys!
It has never been run and I am afraid if I try I might ruin it or something. Or get hurt! That is a good idea to get a "friend" to run it... I traded from a collector friend in WA and it was his last one of several that he acquired some years ago so I guess it might be hard to get one. I will take the owner manual back to work and get my Russian friend, Vladimir, to see if he can tell what the oil ratio is. I am guessing 16:1!!! LOL |

I just found this links at Magnus site posted by a member there.
http://www.newstube.ru/#/video/42B4B...5-BB95DB4AB9C3 copy and paste the link into your browser and then you can watch it. It is a Russian site. Notice how he takes off the recoil and puts it in his pocket. At the end he is using a little hydraulic pump to pry in the cut to assist in felling, but it cuts off befor you can see all the details. I heard they had something like this for the Druzhba but this is the closest I have come to seeing it in action. |

Not only very very poor design on the grip arrengement but if you look at the video it appears that the chain runs in the opposite direction from what we are used to... pushing the saw back toward the operator... maybe the commies designed this thing for use by the the guys in the gulags.

Sorry, Boys, I spend a lot of time with a chainsaw in hand. Just looking at the pictures of those rigs gives me a backache. You would literally have to be built like a Russian bear to handle something like that. For a little runt like me, it would need some knee pads, and of course a special guard in the family area....
But I would sure like to have one of them to display up here, just for my buddies who are always bitchin' about how hard they have to work with their saws.... |

Alain I am pretty sure this one is the real thing. The owner's manual and paperwork is for sure.
Harvey I agree that it is a weird rig to hold and think about cutting with. I doubt I will ever gas it up. I can't even get the filler cap to screw in! The tank looks OK and the cap looks OK but it will not screw in... But it sure gets the comments when any of the guys come around! Eddie |
