I have a Continental power unit. Was my uncles who bought it at an auction for 80 bucks. Years ago. I would like to get some info on it. Model is a IY69 contential motor but it has farmall tags on the sheet metal? I have seen other red seal power units and they say red seal down the side in raised lettering. After staring at it for about 2 years. I got the motovation to get it running again. I need to get pistons, rings, a full gasket kit, valve guides, valves, main bearings head studs and a variety of other parts. I dont have a clue where to find all of the parts that i need.
Any help would be great. Mitch |

I will look again but NAPA had a lot of parts for those engines when I worked for the Vendor. Before you order any parts tear it down and measure everything up as not everything may be standard such as the bore , crank, etc. Where are you located? I deal with a firm in Toledo that has both new & used parts. Y models were also used in smaller lift trucks Questions, send me a message.

John pretty well covered it.
First shows up in my stuff in an April 1940 engine parts catalog (doesn't show in 1936 issue by same company) so it's been around for awhile; don't know when (if?) prod stopped--my latest bearing catalog is Clevite 1994 and it's still listed. Cont designations in the 40's was Y4069 for the "automotive" (actually truck) version, Y69 for the "Industrial" version (includes Ag uses, except Power Units) and PY69 for Power Units. I would guess the "IY69" was used for engines sold to IH for Farmall power units. I can't recall offhand seeing one listed for a truck, but they're in various pieces of Ag eqpmt, etc, as John said. A 1943-45?? (latest entry 1942) Hastings catalog lists Y4069,IY69, IY69B, LY69 (??), PY69 and Y69. You'll want to be careful with the mains; a 1986 Fed-Mog bearing catalog shows "early" engines with two different sets of mains and three sets of mains for the "late" engines. Looks like the differences are in the front main, but that's just a guess. |

Never had a Y apart although we had a larger Y series (Y112)in a lift truck at work. Continental used the front main as the thrust bearing. Some use a bearing with one flange and one thrust washer some use a straight shell bearing with thrust washers on both sides. Don't know if they got to the thrust bearing with a flange on both sides or not.
