Hi Mike
![]() PLENTY of Briggs & Stratton down here. Lot of equipment has B&S as the power source. I'm not a collector of their product, but I have a mate (buddy) that has an early one. I'll ask him to get in touch with you. Teddey |

Oh ya, they made it here allright.
Mowers, pumps, grain augers, they were used extensivly before the power reached most areas. I've got a 5hp down at the shed that drives an auger for boring holes in fence posts for the wire. I don't collect them though.

Plenty of them over here too. You see the old one every now and then but they are not as easy to find. Plenty of modern ones though. Our club has around 250 old engines and out of that they only have a couple of 14R6 models and a BR6 model.
![]() I myself collect them, but they are quite hard to find. All I have so far are two 5s models and a wmb. The other club I belong to has a model NPR6 sitting outside in their old iron garden , although they are only just getting to the stage of finishing their display buildings and most of their engines and machinery are still in storage, locals sheds and a few shipping containers. But I have a feeling that when they start sorting through it all, there's bound to be some old briggs that they won't want. If I can get hold of their register book that should tell if and how many brigggs motors they have.Regan in NZ |

Gidday Mike,
I have a ex military engine approx 1940 model 'N' I think and several mowers none of which are especially interesting as there are literally thousands of them down here, and they are still coming! Cheers John. |

Oh "yep" they made it down here alright !!
Briggs were the first engine to break the stranglehold the pomms (er English) had on the lightweight portable engine market.Until they came on the scene it was all BSA, JAP Villiers ect. We have had them on the farm here since the early 60s and I recon at the moment I would have about 20 of them in various condition from 2 1/2 HP up to about 15 HP on everything from grain augers and generators to Pumps and sheep showers. We have several cast iron cylinder Briggs engines and they are still earning their keep working on the various machines they power. |

Recently I was given some old air cooled engines to find good homes for. Three of them are old B and S's. One is a model B crank handle start, another is a cast iron one but the name plate is painted over so I don't know what it is and the third is an alloy one, which I think is early. I would not want to collect Briggs and Strattons as I have had too many bad experiences with them, they don't begin to compare with Honda's when it comes to hard work. Having said that I do appreciate that they have a place in history, and should be preserved.
