Default eBay and Money Orders

I see now that if you put the word Money Order in the description of your item, then click to go to the next page, you will get a warning of sorts about the money order and it won't let you go any farther. Of course you still put MO and get away with it until your caught.

Yes it sucks big time! I just sold a couple things 2 wks ago for the first time on ebay in over a yr. Never before have I had such a hard time! First it hangs up on the money order thing. I changed that to $$$order to get around things. Then I was forced to list paypal as an option. So I put in my auctions that it's listed but not accepted. I really shouldn't call them idiots but guess what my buyers did - they all tried to pay w/ paypal! I've had ~500 tranactions since Nov 99 w/ about 50/50 buy and sell. These last 3 sales were such a pita... All I wanted was a nice simple no frills auction and for the buyer to either pay with a m/o or company check or pick up with cash. Since when was that too fooking much to ask??

Curious situation at EBay...reportedly only PayPal now...
I only buy penny-ante stuff, parts catalgs mostly, and I see some that say will accept checks or USPO MO's, and last three catalogs bought (all this year) were with checks...
Someone advised sellers had option of accepting payment outside PayPal if asked for by buyer and OK'd by seller before bidding...other sellers have said while have no trouble with checks etc EBay absolutely prohibits...
So if I see any wording that sounds like could be anything besides PayPal payment, I ask; I'll have to get a limited liability credit card to use eventually.

Ebay has turned into the biggest one sided joke these days. Besides the paypal issue I cant stand not being able to leave negative feedback for deadbeat bidders!

I discovered the same thing as Bill said a few weeks ago while trying to list an engine. That almost made me quit ebay right there. But i soon cooled down and thought well hay atleast i can still buy. Ebay is nothing short of what motormowers said anymore. Ebay is just getting to be a one sided power blinded JOKE. Im almost convenced there not operating in the U.S. as they claim becouse they take away a persons rights to sell how THEY wish to sell and have the transaction. I know there trying to close out the scammers but hell if your that damn afraid to use ebay maybee you shouldnt use ebay in the first place.

Please read this site carefully accepting payment term (read Payment method exceptions)
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html

I sold bunch of ebay items last week with no problem. First of all I cannot describe m.o. or check or cash in description because ebay has many records of thief or counterfeit sellers. It be whole lot better not to describe in description. At the end of auction buyers have won the auction. Buyer will verify that I have no address. Just name and city. Buyer send me a note wanting to pay with check or money order. No problem. About 98% of my buyer use Paypal. Most of buyer are wise, safe using paypal from credit or banking account. Seven years ago I have trouble contacting buyer who won a John Deere B carburetor. Buyer has no return email or rejected. Guess what! They are from Worthington Ag parts!
Last year i have problem selling to a New york City. The buyer have won but never paid. Guess what! They try to steal my home address. Buyer ask me to refund by writing my check. No way! Stealing bank routing and account number. Ebay already strike them. Six years back, seller from Iowa. He is a true gas engine collector. I won the item tools. I sent him money order. Mail arrived his wife collect money. Later he said no money in an envelope wont deliver. I mailed second time with copy proof MO receipt. He still stubborn wont except. Then I wrote a check it prove canceled. Does he double the profit? Now I see he has many bad feed backs non delivered.
Ebay would like to see paypal record a speedy service for both seller and buyer a safe way.
Some years back I remember senior folks complaining about direct deposit retirement checks. The social security department are trying to keep cost down, speed the service in processing. In the major city many of social security retirement check were stolen from their mail box.
Same way with ebay, paypal. few years later People will settle down without complaints.
If I buy tractor or steam engine. I'd go for pay pal or pay cash in person as described in ebay site. Paypal is safe way to prove it especially small items to be delivered. Now days this year the economy went bad and unemployment. The seller are looking for money without shipment. Watch it! Thieves doesn't like Paypal. The dumbfounded or wise people could be safe and easy to use paypal.
Thats all I know. My 100% ebay feedback is over 600(actually around 800 from combined items).

the obove info come as no suprise to me
as eBay countinualy seems to be finding ways
to make it difficlt for every one for example researched it.

There are rumors of the bad stuff eBay will be doing with its checkout system...

eBay requires all payments to be paperless already. Some time in the future, all merchant accounts and online payment systems will be integrated into eBay checkout and eBay will know all your personal info of you merchant account just like they know your info with paypal and just like they know your info with moneybookers and those other ones (which by eBay policy require your social security number and they secretly pass that info on to eBay).

When that's done, buyers will be able to file the buyer disputes in eBay and with a click of a button, they'll be able to get their payment reversed through eBay, even if you have a merchant account, eBay will just force a refund through your merchant account to the buyer. Oh and eBay won't get your chargeback info so if the buyer already did a chargeback, they can get a double refund. eBay will allow third party checkout, but merchant accounts will still be integrated through it just like how auctiva checkout handles things when you set it "paypal only".

any way thse are the rumors that as been going around lately

What you want to do is offer local pickup as an option. This opens it up for payment in any form that you want. A seller can still accept check / money order / cash if they want. I have been asked on several items if I accept other payment and always say yes. Ebay can say nothing if you have local pickup/payment accepted.

Ebay says "For most categories, sellers can't ask buyers to:..."

IT DOESN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT BUYERS ASKING SELLERS !!!!!!!!

A week or two ago I relisted an item. In the description (NOT payment terms) I included I can accept Paypal but a money order was preferred.
When I went to relist the item I got "THE WARNING" about accepting other forms of payment...... .......so I had to edit the description.

They started cracking down on that last year already with the exception being items listed in eBay Motors and a couple catagories for large industrial equipment. If you mentioned checks or Money Orders ANYWHERE in the listing they would give you a warning about it and stated that after I believe it was Jan 15th, they would automatically pull Any Listing that even mentioned a Money Order.

I don't know if eBay Motors is still exempt from that or not, but it may limit your viewing public by listing there as opposed to the regular eBay listings.

You can still list items as Cash with Local Pickup whether it's a car truck or tractor, or even a postcard, picture, or silverware, if someone local bids on it and wants to pick it up in person. Just Don't mention Money Orders anywhere....

Even if you prefer Cash, You still are forced to list PayPal as a payment option, or whatever their new electronic payment system is.... I haven't checked that one out yet.

If the items are to be shipped by seller. If seller consider money(thief) listed a faked item. Seller or buyer asked to use money order or check rather than paypal. Seller has not shipped the item, no contact. Ebay is not responsible for loss for whom use M.O. or Check or any other transactions. Ebay will guaranteed paypal protection will strike the seller. This will help reduce downtime. Thief hate Paypal.<<<
You go to your local auctions advertised in paper says "Not responsible for lost or stolen"
Watch out for Archive Ebay item number! Count how many current numbers.
Maybe one by thief city folk is looking for a photo shot of agriculture catalog to sell to buyer requesting MO only. Thief is smarter than buyer. It be whole lot better use one safe form of payment for small item. if large item such as farm machinery, auto, metal machinery... be excellent to pay by in person upon pick up. I sold some books on ebay last week. Buyer request me an address because buyer could not see my address without paypal. I did send them my address. I am not sure ebay will delete my address automatically? Some buyers knows me because my user is bantinggreyhound paid with check or mo.
When depressions coming again since 1933. Lets say if someone has good feedback, lost a job , no money left, bankruptcy, starve for food get a chance take money 500.00 without delivery. MO sent with temporary fake address. Get a mail from someone mailbox while they are vacation or winter home. I check the registration on ebay. There is no social security to fill. I think I remember the only social security to fill in is paypal. Paypal is banking is part of federal reserved licensed required SS #. Paypal card service may have a choice by customer for debit checking or credit card account or both. I sold items I use pay pal for postal paid by customer or purchase gas at a pump. That's I know when it counts.

Angry Re: eBay and Money Orders

I ordered 2 custom built wooden airplane models. Paid oner $450 via paypal. Seller never delivered items. Because it took more that 30 days to realize that the items were not shipped., Ebay would not recind payment. Paypal likewise. Because the seller was based overseas (phillipines), what recourse do I have if EBay and paypal won't honor their promises? Once burn't twice shy!

I have bought some small stuff on evilbay before. I emailed up front to the sellers letting them know I don't do paypal do they accept postal money orders. They all said yes, so far I've had no problems, at the same time they all are from the U.S., under $100 bucks and they all have at least 99+ feedback.
I would never order anything expensive unless, like the one engine I bought, but I knew the seller. And yes he accepted check or MO.

Andrew.......what funding source do you have as your primary source? If it's a credit card your credit card company should go to bat for you. If it's a checking account you're screwed.......
I HAD a VERIFIED account with my checking account but there was NO DAMN WAY I could change the PRIMARY fund source AWAY from my checking account.....PAYPAL doesn't allow for that change.......
I WANTED my credit card to be the DEFAULT SOURCE but NOPE.....couldn't do it without removing the checking account....... .......so I DID.
My CREDIT card company will fight crooked work WAY more than any bank will.......even my friendly little bank here in town.

UNfortunately PayPal is STILL a darn handy way for us little guys to "accept" credit cards and get paid instantly instead of waiting days on end to "git 'er dun" any other way.

I buy things an eBay and usually use PayPal because I don't want to wait for the check to clear.

But it bothers me that eBay owns PayPal. So they make money on the sale and on the financial transaction. And if they don't allow other forms of payment IMO it is a monopoly.
