Default Generac Generator 5500GL Power Questions

Another Generac Generator 5500GL With power problems

I had to Buy a new voltage reg then
I excited the brushes got good results

Cleaned the rings

Put everything back together and tested. Got 50 or so Volts at the 110 outlets
turned up the Pot on the side of the Control board and was able to max out 80 Volts at the out lets. The 220 outlet gave me about 160volts

I suspect that the control board has gone south!
or worst yet maybe the field or rotor

any sugestions on this?

thanks
Dimitri

Dimitri-

The fact that you were able to adjust the voltage using the pot on the side of the control board, makes me think the control board is working OK.

I think the engine is just running slow. You need to verify it is running at least 3600 RPM, or to verify output frequency is at least 60 Hz.

If you find it is slow and correct the problem, you will probably find that the output voltage is now way high and needs to be turned down!
