Default Glass plate negative (Huber)

Found this gem on ebay. I always enjoy studying glass plate negatives as the resolution is absolutely amazing for the time at which the image was captured. So what the heck are we looking at in this image???

I told a staunch Huber aficianado about this one, but since the cat's out of the bag, I'll say it's one of the very first Huber gas tractors made, around 1898. Is it cool, or what?

Thanx Mike: It certainly is a most peculiar looking piece of equipment. Is that a Huber cleat pattern? Sorry for letting the cat out of the bag.

I just happened to be glancing through my Wendel's and on page 146 is an image of this very tractor, and from the looks of the image it appears to have been taken slightly before or after this very image, only reversed.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Robert. I've pored over that pic in Wendel's book quite a few times, but been frustrated at the lack of detail. Does this mean that his picture is the one that is reversed??

All the best

David

Good question David. I am sorry but I can not answer that. I will have to study them both again. It seems the photographer took both images one after the other, as I believe the men are not in the same position in both photos, but it is indeed the same barn and shed. That is the beauty of glass plate negatives, the resolution, and detail are amazing.
