Default The Marion 10 HP

Took delivery of a nice 10 hp Marion Saturday . It was delivered from Iowa by a couple of friends coming from Nebraska to Zack and Jack Williams home in Belmont ,WV. Will need several parts machines and the piston is stuck. I recond I will have to drag out the electrolis barrel and charger. That is just some of the fun of getting this rare little oil field engine running again. Hope to have it at Sistersville in Sept.
Will keep you all posted.
Tom in VA.

Its always nice to chat with a freind and make things happen.
Nice looking engine. You would save yourself a little cash if you just poor some moon shine in that cylinder.

I think you should have left it in Belmont, it would have been well taken care of

I should have Hi-Jacked that Marion before it ever left the "Nebraska Oilfields". The Marion Engine sure is nice. Can't wait to see it running Tom.
Nice to meet Jack, Zach, Tom and Bill. Also a thanks to the freight broker KK.

Well after 2,200 miles in three days, were home. 5 Engines changed hands and we only lost 1 tire on the trailer. Fortunatly just a seperated belt and no blow out so we were able to get off the interstate. I'm ready for the next trip.

Here are a couple of shots of the loads.

Starting to get the Marion back in shape. I have the cylinder in electrolis to loosen piston . Hs been cooking for a week . Probley will take a couple more to loosen it up enough to remove safely.
Got a piece of 1 7/16" drill rod to make new side shaft.
Will post more soon.

Had a chance to machine the intake box for the little Marion today. Will grind a 45 degree seat tomarrow after dressing a stone and making a manral to fit valve stem hole.
Rebuilt the flyball governor. Had to drill old shaft out and make a new one
Hope to have the Exhaust box finished by the weekend.

Things are looking up. 10 days in electrolis and a little help from a 100# ram, The piston is out. This puppy must have had some kinda compression. It has 3 rings per groove and 3 grooves. For some reason no oil wipe ring. But it will have one when it goes back together. The bore is rought and I will probley bore and sleeve.
Till later

The sleeve is in and the gasket grooves are cut. Had to butt cut the cylinder because the sleeve was only 22" long. This will help hold the sleeve in place. The piston is next. Have to true up piston and fit the 9 old rings to the new sleeve. Hope to have this old girl up and running by the end of the month.
Thanks for looking

My two helpers and myself have just about got the ole Marion 10 hp back together. Waiting on the two oil rings for the piston ,then the piston goes in. Have a little touch up to do and the gold pin stripping. This has been a great project. I have a freind of mine rebuilding a Wico type L mag for the Ole Girl. That was the original for the 10 hp.
Will keep you all post on progress.
Thanks for looking.

Everything hooked up and finshed. I gave the ole girl a try this afternoon. A little gas in the spartk plug hole. When the mag tripped she belched out a big cloud of black smoke. That's it one fire. She is still pretty tight. Will belt her up to a 15 hp F/M I just finshed working on for a friend and exercise her a little ,will help things. So fellows if all you get out of your Ole Girl is a little smoke, just belt her up and exercise her some. Has always helped me.

Got the Marion to fire up and run on it's own today. A little bit more adjustments and it will purr like a kitten. Boy doest it hit hard, I have ti run with the compression release on. I recond it is the 9 compression rings and 2 back oil rings. Will get the kinks out soon and it will be up for sale. I will bring to Coolspring in Oct. if not sold before.
