Boredom at work has it's rewards! I search all the auction sites I can to see what I can find. This happens to be one of those times I got lucky. I hope some folks are looking at this auction. Be a shame to see those tractors go to scrap. Looks like there is something for everyone.

I recently recieved an e-mail from a fellow Stakker wanting to know why I posted this auction on Smokstak. It went on to say, how he had planned to go to the auction and now that it had been posted on Smokstak, he was thinking of canceling his plans to attend this auction. He stated, because of me, now all the "BIG COLLECTORS" knew about it and that it was going to put him out of the running to bid and have any chances of coming home with something that might have went cheap. This e-mail was very suprising coming from a fellow Stakker. So I thought about how I would respond to such an e-mail through the night and rather than respond to an e-mail, I thought I would respond here publicly and without remorse.

THE RESPONSE:

1) I am not attending the auction but I wish I could. There are some items I would have liked to bid on or at least watched sell. I am not, however, going to sit by idle and let "the scrap iron people" go to a sale and bid on "valued treasures of history" and let them cut it up for a mere $80.00 to $120.00 a ton. There are tons of people here on Smokstak who, I hope, feel the same way as I do about that. If just one Stakker goes to this auction and saves one item from "the scrap iron people" then posting this auction was worth getting an angry e-mail from somebody whom I have never met and a "valued treasure of history" will have been saved. I hope the gentleman who sent the e-mail to me is one of those lucky Stakkers who goes to the auction and comes home with at least one item. I WILL NOT BE OFFENDED, if you go to this auction and come home with something that I don't have or wanted. I will not be jealous or full of envy or regret because I did not go and bid. YOU WON'T KNOW UNLESS YOU GO! If for some reason, an item from this auction, winds up across the ocean in another counrty, SO BE IT! I did not know this hobby was an "AMERICAN EXCLUSIVE" I believe those folks over there have just as much right to bid on an item as anybody else. If they have "LARGER BANK ACCOUNTS" than you or I, that's NOT MY PROBLEM.
2) As for your comment, regarding the "BIG COLLECTORS", I am not one of those, but I do take offense to the comment. I have met a couple of the "BIG COLLECTORS" as you like to call them. I will tell you this. THEY ARE SOME OF THE BEST PEOPLE WHOM I HAVE EVER MET. They have taking the time and effort to save a little piece of those "VALUED TREASURES OF HISTORY" and share them with the world. It doesn't matter if they are a Private Collector, a Club, or a Muesem, they have spent the money, time, and effort for a chance to do something great with their lives, by perserving a piece of history for the next generation to share and experience.
The folks I have met since getting into this hobby, a "BIG COLLECTOR" or the "YOUNG KID" with one or two engines, have a passion for saving those "VALUED TREASURES OF HISTORY". A passion far greater, than what I saw in your e-mail. These very same folks have given something far greater than you can possibly FATHOM because of this passion. They give the knowledge and time without regret, without envy, without jealousy. They are not standing in the back of the crowd they are STANDING IN FRONT OF THE CROWD with PRIDE, HONOR, RESPECT, INTEGRITY AND A PASSION FOR A HOBBY THAT YOU CERTAINLY DON'T UNDERSTAND AND FROM WHAT I HAVE READ NEVER WILL.
My advice, to the individual who sent the e-mail, before you take the time to type an e-mail to me and curse those "BIG COLLECTORS" you might ought to take the time to go get to know them. You might just learn something. I know they will take the time to teach you something new. IT'S FREE KNOWLEDGE!
To my many Stakker friends, known and yet to meet, THANK YOU for the time and knowledge that you give to so many people.
I did not mention the gentleman's name, nor will I, so please don't ask me to give his name. I won't do that. He knows who he is and he has to live everyday looking in the mirror. I hope he finds the passion he certainly needs in his life.

Thumbs down Re: July 11th Glenham South Dakota

Arlyn......an email such as his, and from a member here no less, is in very bad form.
That "member" has shown himself to be quite selfish, very small minded and, I might add, greedy.
Announcing such things is called ADVERTISING.

Sounds like this person had planned on "cleaning up".......

Craig....... Goes way deeper than Advirtising for me. I wasn't going to go anyway. I was only sharing the event with a really great bunch of people who have the same passion for the hobby as I do and I am very new to it. I had one of the coolest expierences at a recent auction with a "BIG COLLECTOR" and it goes like this. I saw a compressor that is a Fairbanks Morse and a couple of "BIG COLLECTORS" were there as well. They saw it and they are friends. They discussed it and pulled me into the conversation and told me that is the compressor that I needed for my Fairbanks Morse 3hp compressor unit. Myself, not knowing said "ok". They both decided that I needed it and was not going home without it and refused to bid against me so that would happen. Now I have it in my shop, thanks to them, and at a very cool price. As it turns out, it wasn't the compressor I needed. It is a stand alone unit. The point being is this.
When this gentleman has that happen to him, he will not know what to say or think. I know I didn't. This wasn't the first time this has happened to me. Everytime it does happen, I stand in AWE of some really great people with a passion for something greater than themselves. I feel HONORED to have been a witness to the occasions that I have experienced. That just doesn't apply to the auctions. It applies to the folks here who have started a thread, posted a reply, taken a phone call, sent a private message, sent an e-mail, posted a picture, offered a prayer for those in need, and assisted in any number of small ways to some one else. From my viewpoint, They are all "BIG COLLECTORS" and they are collecting something greater than "OLD IRON".

I can tell you from experience that an auction of this caliber, it would have made no difference whether it was posted here or not, would have drawn BIG COLLECTORS. I have attended auctions that have not been listed here and still saw items bring big money. And on the other side of the coin, I have seen auctions, in particular the Dan Cerra auction, where it was listed here and items went went cheap, real cheap. Little does this person know, his battle was lost as soon as the auctioneer advertised it. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool.

I agree, this auction has probably already worked across the nether reaches of the hobby. I mean come on, there's an original Oil Pull, a Big Bull, and a Little Bull. Things like those do not go unnoticed.

Oops, looks like I have exposed the "EXTRA Sekrit" auction's contents for all the world to see. Sorry

I have no idea what a Bull tractor looks like or how rare it is. I hope whoever goes to this can post some pictures of these, as well as the results of the auction.

Just from memory Bull 50k, Rumely 55k, waterloo boy 56K?, give or take. I am sure someone wrote the figures down. I bought the 5-10 Avery basket case and half the engine that was scattered on pallets before the tractor sold. If anyone has any spare 5-10 parts PM me or if they are needing anything cast let me know, as me and anouther guy that is missing parts will be casting different pcs.

Just for the record the Rumely was stuck but complete. That's a lot of $$$$$ for a 20-40 IN MY OPINION.

The "should run without too much work but stuck" 10-20 Titan brought $18,000 I was told.

It IS about time a Waterloo Boy sold for less than a house too.......

Did anyone hear how this auction went and have any sold prices of any items? I was just interested in knowing about the engines.
