Does anyone know where to buy Gib keys in oz.?
Ive tried a lot of bearing suppliers, Blackwoods, and 2 well known stationary engine suppliers.
I can get them out of the US, but would like to try here first.
regards Chris

Hi Chris,

I can get the smaller sizes from a local engineering firm in Orange - so i'm sure they are out there, but you might be better off getting what you want made to your size. Its a fairly simple milling machine exercise - yours, a mate's - or even the pay way - it don matter. I paid to get a huge one made about 4 years ago and although not cheap ($100 I think) it was worth it for me. The taper is 1/8" per foot which is 1/96 which is so close to 1/100 that it don matter.

If you tell me the exact size that you need I'll go to the place in Orange and check em out for you. Whatever the new key you get, it'll always probably need to be "file fit". Grind a bit of and refit until ideally you will have about 1/4" sticking out the flywheel hub and about flush on the inside.

Mike

Remember the US taper is different to the British taper. I forget now the difference but its in the machinery handbook.
