Hi Im new to this site so I hope I have posted this thread in the right place.
I am rebuilding some Waukesha 145 GZ and GK engines and I am trying to find some undersize crank bearing shells at sensible prices, I have found a couple of suppliers in the USA who have quoted around $1500 for .020in undersize main bearings. I cant see why the price is so high when standards shells are about $300. Any help would be greatfully received. Best regards Jim. |

Jim: It'd help if you could post, briefly, the suppliers you've already checked; there're a number of obsolete engine parts outfits here that may or may not be helpful, if you haven't already checked them.
First word of company name should be sufficient, to save space. |

Completely forgot Arrow (arrowengines.com) has the 145G/F817 on their Wauk support list, in case you haven't already tried them.
Per a 94 Clevite bearing catalog most of the 145's I have listed take the same bearings (145GK, GKB, GKU, GS, GZ, GZB, GZU, HK, HS and the companion F817G) even tho bores differ. Crankshaft forgings for these shown as 145011-C and -J; 145111-C; 145211, 145211-A and -D; 145311-B and -C; and 145411 in that catalog. You might also contact a member here who posts as ListerDiesel, who's in the UK and quite knowledgeable about parts sources there, in the event he misses your post. |

Hi Bud, thanks for the response, I have tried Jobbersinc, Arrow and Mecanicapedrosa. From what I was told by the first two companies its cheaper in the USA to buy a new crank with standard bearings than grind and fit undersize.Over here the price of bearings are very similar no matter if they are standard or undersize shells.
Mechanicapedrosa lists undersize shells at the same price as standard but does not have any??. I have tried the net but cant seem to get anywhere so thought I would try here. Thanks Jim. |

Being both a pessimist and a conspiracy theorist, I'd wonder if the outfits that suggested new crank and std bearings had sets to sell, but I'm sure that'd be unkind and probably undeserved...
Haven't bought bearings for long years but don't recall appreciable differences; may be because they're becoming had to find?? Here are a few more outfits to try: mandmsurplus.com (Brooklyn, New York); foleyengines.com; continentalengines.com (supposedly has some old Wauk parts); georgemillermachine.com (long shot: bought up an old Wauk dealers leftover inventory); Egge.com (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.); saturnsurplus.com--this's military stuff; 145's were used in some military stuff, and I don't show a "military standard" 145 ("military standard" parts were sometimes different from the "civilian" engine parts). Some that I just have phone #'s for (should have websites, but never Googled for them): Obsolete Ind'l Engines (Frank) 916-655-3185; Mills Motors (Mike) 1-800-624-7999 Kraft/Craft Power 781-938-9100 Ext 338. I have no direct knowledge of any of these; all are from other Wauk posts in the last 2-3 yrs. Dual ign 145's were used in fire trucks etc; try the fire truck sites (alfowners.com?, spaamfa.com/org/net? etc). Over-the-road trucks had some; try aths.org, ATCA (antique truck club of America) etc. ATHS has a "parts and services" section, where members post where to find rare/obsolete parts, etc. Will go over my notes (awful mess, but need to be correlated anyhow) and post any more that I missed. Oh, yes: DO contact ListerDiesel; he may be able to suggest Brit/Eurozone sources. Good luck |

I will do a little research on this to see if I can come up with a viable solution for you. I would suggest Odessa Babbit if you have to have some made. http://www.obbco.com/index.html

Here is the waukesha part numbers for the bearing set you need. 918-244 it does not include the thrust rings. Those need to be purchased seperate. The parts book I am using is dated 1979 and shows the 817, 145gb and 145gz to all take the same bearings.
