Default Hi from West Australia

Have been lurking awhile, enjoying this great site, but since our best Australian site recently vanished I'm having withdrawal symptoms in my remote location, so have come here for my regular fix. Look forward to learning much more in future visits.
My main interests are old Diesels and cable excavators, but it's great to see what others are doing and share their experience, Regards, Murray (Combustor)

Hi Murray. There are quite a few refugees from the TOMM Forum on Smokstak. Some have been here a long time and some only recently hopped on board. Harry has created an Australia/NZ section just for all of us to play in

Hi and welcome aboard. It's great to hear about your part of the world, and what youre collecting. I farm grain crops and drive trucks to earn my daily bread. A good part of our collection still gets regular use on the farm. I have been trying get some of tractors from the 1920s while still avilable,as budget permits. I look forward to your poasts. F J W

Hey there Combustor, Your part of the world is on my bucket list but havn't made it yet. Did any Schield Bantam cable excavators get out that far ? We just lost my daughter in law's grandad and it was his favorite machine. Had at least three over the years and although terribly arthritic he could make 'em talk. Keystone Drillers are a local machine from here and I corresponded a few years back with a fellow in NZ who had the remains of one over there. Keep in touch

Hello Tom G,
Only just spotted your reply on cable excavators. Most of the machines which we imported were of British origin with the exception of a few bigger Bucyrus Erie, Marion etc. Most of my time was spent on Ruston Bucyrus machines, (built under licence from BE.) Good tough machines, though some engines were a mixed blessing. Also had several Australian built Harmans, a bit crude but good value. Later also had a 33 ton Swedish built Kockum, (formerly a Landsverk L-77). Nearly all our machines were rigged as draglines, with occasional clamshell and crane work.
Your Scheid Bantam and Keystone Drillers machines are not ones I recognise, so presume very few made it over here.Retired now but still have my 19-RB dragline/crane in my yard and running. Send a PM if you need further details, Regards, Combustor.
