I have a 18 -32 Crossmotor Case which I am about to start to restore.
I also have access to a 45 K-A Chamberlain, which I have to go and collect. I would appreciate any information about the Crossmotor Case, particularly workshop manuals and operation manuals. The Chamberlin is more for my Aussie mates I have to go and get it from this guys property my dad found it about 8 years ago and was going to get it but got crook and eventually ended up selling all his tractors. My question is, what is it worth, it is in going condition but the steering box is stuffed. Grateful for any help, or info Cheers, Rick |

Rick, I have an 18-32 K, which I bought last year. Apart from shot manifolds (repros are available from Rosewood) the biggest problem with these old tractors is wear in the final drive/differential/rear axle assembly. Mine needed loads of work, including cutting a new drive pinion and we had to have the axle metal sprayed and re-machined back to standard. The Hyatt baerings can also be a problem etc etc etc..... All this is often caused by the fact that the final drive casing is very low-slung and subject to damage in use, which can allow all the lubricant to leak out without the operator ever realising the fact until the damage is done. By this time, the final drive is usually shot, resulting in many such tractors subsequently being used only for stationary belt work until the end of their useful lives. You may be lucky and have a good one, but they can be expensive to fix if they are like mine was. However, when you get them right they are lovely old tractors. Good luck.

Rick, Just wondered what serial number your Case is. I have an 18/32, serial 60267. The tractor spent its working life in Australia before it was brought over to England in the early 1980's. wondered if they where closely matched. Great tractor though, no shortage of power, they just make more noise! In the end the whole county can hear what you're doing! Great Stuff! Harry

Hi Harry,
Sorry it has taken so long for me to reply. Here are photos of the ID plates on the tractor. |
